Full Job Description Position Summary:
Position Summary The Assistant Manager of the Critical Care Ground Transport team assumes all responsibilities for the Air Care Team (ACT) and Emergency Transfer Center while on administrative call for the program. In conjunction with the Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager of ACT and Communications Supervisor, is responsible for the day to day operations of the department and staffing of the aircraft. The Critical Care Ground Transport Team provides swift and seamless transportation of transfers for our patients between Orlando Health facilities. Umbrellaed under the Orlando Health Air Care Team, Orlando Health partnered with Air Methods to bring this team together. With 40 years of service on the flight side, the Critical Care Ground Transport team aims to bring the same quality of care to Orlando Health patients and the community. As hospitals have expanded, along with more freestanding emergency departments and as the city of Orlando and its surrounding areas grow, there is an increased need to transfer patients who are sick or critically ill, efficiently, safely and urgently. The Critical Care Ground Transport team allows us to take the sickest of patients, no matter where they are and get them exactly where they need to be, when they need to be there while providing seamless care in between. Our clinical providers riding alongside patients in the ambulances are going to provide the same level of care that our flight medic nurses provide, which is essentially in delivering the highest levels of critical care for transport available in the state of Florida. This is just another way that Orlando Health is committed to providing the best patient care possible.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions  In conjunction with Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager of ACT, ensures that all current equipment is properly maintained and reviews the need for new equipment and supplies.  Assesses patients' needs and develops an individualized plan of care for each patient in compliance with standards of care and practice, and all regulatory/accrediting requirements.  Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age and disease care appropriate to the patient.  Prescribes, delegates, coordinates, and documents patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner. This includes, but is not limited to, patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.  Provides and documents individualized patient care to include: patient and personal safety, patient assessments in collaboration with the flight RN, patient re-assessments, maintaining airway patency, airway intervention, IV access, ECG interpretations, dysrhythmia recognition, and drug administration.  Demonstrates competency in paramedic skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit specific competencies, prioritizes patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Standards of Care and Practice, practices effective problem identification and resolution, delegates tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient's needs and the team member's capabilities and qualifications.  Communicates appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.  Manages various human resources functions including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling. Other Related Functions  Participates in Performance Improvement (PI) activities through monitoring and evaluation of patient care activities and critical success factors for the department and reports results to administration.  Demonstrates knowledge of budgetary guidelines, performance management, legal issues, and policies and procedures.  Actively participates in the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new employees.  Responsible for the orientation of new Flight Paramedics to the ACT.  In conjunction with the Clinical Assistant Nurse Manager of ACT and the Communications Supervisor, is responsible for staff development, identification of Risk Management issues, policies, guidelines, safety, and infection control issues.  Actively participates on committees and in community efforts.  Functions as a liaison between the Flight Paramedics and administration.  Actively participates in the development and implementation of coaching plans for the Flight Paramedics.
Qualifications:
Education/Training. Graduate of an approved paramedic program. Formal Critical Care Paramedic training program (UMBC CCEMT-P; UF-CCP, similar) preferred. Licensure/Certification Maintains certification as a Paramedic (PMD) in the State of Florida. Maintains current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications in BLS/Healthcare, ACLS, and PALS. Maintains current certification in Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). Maintains International Board of Specialty Certifications Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) or Flight Paramedic (FP-C) Experience Two (2) years of experience working in a prehospital, hospital, or non-transport paramedic position. Experience with an emergency EMS transport agency is preferred. Experience in a Critical Care ground or air transport system is preferred.
