Job Description

American Lutheran Church (ALC)
Division/Department:
Admin/Ops Job title: Facilities Assistant Reports to: Director of Administration Type of position: Part time hourly, 20-25/week (non-exempt). Flexible schedule, with hours generally Sundays-Thursdays and days of special events as needed. Regular church office hours are Mon-Thursday, 8am - 4pm.
General Description:
This position performs regular room set-ups/teardowns and general cleaning/maintenance of the church building/grounds/contents, with the purpose of facilitating the ministry and programs of ALC.
Work Experience Requirements:
Previous custodial experience desired. Experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and custodial trades preferred. Good attention to detail and a strong ability to think proactively. Able to work well independently and function within a team environment. Good organizational and time management skills. Ability to adapt to change and multi-task. Willingness to learn new technology and other pertinent skills.
Personal Requirements:
Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and fully support the philosophy and vision of ALC. Present a warm, friendly image to people who use the church facility; convey a genuine concern for their needs and a desire to facilitate ministry. Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and reliability in all responsibilities. Be able to physically perform the work required (e.g. lift over 50 lbs. with regularity, work with heavy equipment, etc.). Education Requirements High school diploma or GED Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities General Complete work assigned by Director of Administration, pastors, and program staff. Coordinate with staff, volunteers, and contracted cleaning services to ensure all required tasks are completed efficiently and to standard. Work in close collaboration with other Facilities staff to cover church needs. Assist staff, ministry leaders, and church members with their needs. Building, Grounds & Security Complete event and ministry room set-ups and teardowns according to the church calendar and written instructions. Clean and sanitize building in accordance with accepted standards and procedures. Maintain building in accordance with accepted standards and procedures. Track consumable inventory and submit timely ordering needs to Director of Administration. Provide light carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC upkeep and service as needed. Help maintain grounds and landscaping in accordance with accepted standards and procedures. Ensure access to church building and grounds is always available (e.g. clearing obstructions, snow removal, etc.). Maintain clean and well-organized desk space and custodial closets/storage areas. Maintain the security of the facilities by ensuring that doors and windows are locked and lights out.
