- A General Facilities Technician Will requires a blend of technical, mechanical, and soft skills to maintain, diagnose, and repair building systems.
HVAC & Mechanical:
Understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure occupant comfort. Ability to repair motors, pumps, and machinery.Electrical Systems:
Replacing switches, outlets, diagnosing electrical issues and reading schematics.Plumbing & Pipefitting:
Repairing leaks, unclogging drains, and maintaining fixtures.General Maintenance & Construction:
Drywall repair, painting, carpentry, and building hardware repairs.Tools & Equipment:
Proficiency using power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment like multimeters.Safety & Compliance:
Knowledge of OSHA, building codes, and safety procedures to prevent hazards.Technology Literacy:
Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and MS Office for tracking work orders. Core Soft Skills & Physical RequirementsProblem-Solving:
Diagnosing issues and implementing solutions, often in emergency situations.Time Management:
Prioritizing multiple repair requests efficiently.Customer Service:
Interacting professionally with building occupants and tenants.Physical Ability:
Lifting heavy equipment, climbing ladders, and working in tight spaces.Adaptability:
Ability to handle varied tasks and work on-call for emergencies.Other Requirements:
- This is a physically demanding position that often requires standing for extended periods of time, walking, working in tight spaces, bending, squatting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, the ability to distinguish between colors, the ability to work in an environment with noise that may be difficult for some individuals with sensitivity to noise, and the use of hand and power tools.
