JOB SUMMARY
The Facilities and Safety Manager will oversee the efficient operation and safety compliance of the manufacturing facility. This role will be responsible for maintaining all physical aspects of the facility, including equipment, infrastructure, and environmental controls, while also ensuring a safe working environment for all employees by adhering to safety regulations and minimizing workplace hazards.
JOB DUTIES
Facilities Management:
Manage and maintain the manufacturing facilities, ensuring the facilities and equipment are in excellent working condition to support operational efficiency. Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair schedules for all facility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and production equipment. Oversee facility space planning and utilization, ensuring compliance with production requirements and operational workflows. Work with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to maintain and repair building systems, ensuring all services are performed according to contracts and within budget. Monitor and manage facility-related costs, including repairs, utilities, and supplies, and provide regular reports to senior management. Ensure all facility systems, including lighting, ventilation, and temperature control, meet the required operational standards. Manage the inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, ensuring the timely procurement of necessary materials.
Safety and Compliance:
Develop, implement, and enforce a comprehensive safety program, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards, local safety regulations, and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards in the manufacturing environment and implement corrective measures to mitigate risks. Collaborate with the production team to ensure safe work practices and equipment usage are always followed. Maintain and update safety manuals, emergency response plans, and training materials for all employees. Investigate workplace incidents and near-miss events, providing detailed reports and implementing strategies to prevent future occurrences. Ensure the availability, accessibility, and proper functioning of safety equipment such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eyewash stations, and emergency exits. Stay informed of industry's best practices and regulatory changes and update safety protocols as needed.
Emergency Preparedness:
Develop, test, and implement emergency response procedures specific to manufacturing operations (fire, chemical spills, equipment failure, etc.). Organize and conduct regular safety drills, including fire drills, first aid, and emergency evacuation exercises. Maintain emergency supplies, including first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and spill containment materials, and ensure they are in proper working order. Coordinate with local authorities and emergency responders to ensure readiness in case of any facility-related emergencies. Ensure safety signage and protocols are clearly displayed throughout the facility.
Team Leadership and Training:
Promote a safety-first culture throughout the facility, providing ongoing training and support to employees on safety procedures and best practices. Facilitate regular safety meetings and maintain communication with all departments to address safety concerns and improvements. Track employee safety performance and provide coaching or corrective actions where necessary. Act as the point of contact for all safety-related matters and advise senior management on safety initiatives, compliance, and risk mitigation strategies.
Regulatory Compliance:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations, local laws, and industry standards, ensuring the company meets all compliance requirements. Prepare for and manage external inspections from regulatory bodies such as OSHA or local fire marshals. Ensure all necessary safety documentation, including training records and inspection logs, is maintained and accessible.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and environmental health and safety (EHS) practices within a manufacturing setting. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and the unique safety challenges associated with industrial environments. Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate a team. Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills. Strong communication skills to interact effectively with employees at all levels, contractors, and external regulators. Proficiency in using facilities management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to stay calm and decisive during emergencies or critical situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years of experience in facilities management, safety management or safety roles in a manufacturing environment. OSHA certification or other safety-related certifications.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must possess ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and Quality System Manual. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in one-on-one and small group situations.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Directly Supervises Facilities Maintenance Mechanic.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS
Must be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Will require some travel to other company facility.
