Job Description
Overview High Point Academy, a Kindergarten through 8th grade independent school in Pasadena, seeks a Facilities Assistant beginning August 1, 2026. The Facilities Assistant is responsible for supporting the Director of Facilities in managing all aspects of campus operations, maintenance, custodial services, safety, and event support. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Assistant also works closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Head of School, and Assistant to the Head of School. Working together, this team ensures that the campus' buildings, grounds, and systems are safe, well-maintained, and supportive of the school's teaching and learning environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Building Maintenance - Regularly monitors the appearance and function of the school buildings and campus grounds, providing necessary repairs that include but are not limited to carpentry work, painting, and hardware/fixture repair. Project Assistance - Works with the Director of Facilities on projects that may be ongoing or necessary. Responds to any tickets or faculty requests in conjunction with the Director of Facilities. Directs and accompanies contractors on campus for repairs, inspections, or renovations. Hands-on Support and Event Setup - Actively participates in the physical setup, breakdown, and readiness of campus spaces for daily activities and special events. This may involve handling furniture, room configurations, and real-time adjustments to ensure all environments are fully prepared and professionally executed. Campus Upkeep - Ensures that the campus is kept clean, attractive, and safe at all times. Qualifications:
Previous work experience that includes the responsibilities outlined above. Collegial attitude required to interact with multiple school constituencies—faculty, staff, parents, and working on a campus with elementary school children. Proactive initiative to complete repairs or clean-up with a high attention to detail. A high degree of integrity, discretion, and reliability. Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be physically able to operate power equipment weighing 50 to 80lbs. Ability to work outside in hot or cold conditions for extended periods of time. This position may require significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, kneeling, etc. Ability to move around the campus quickly, as needed. Schedule and Hours of Service:
Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, including a ½ hour lunch break. Must be able to occasionally work outside of usual employment hours to perform tasks that cannot be conducted while students are on campus or to support school events occurring on the weekend or in the evening. Responsibilities of the role may necessitate working parts of school vacations (e.g. Winter Break, Spring Break, certain holidays) to perform and support projects unable to be scheduled during school days. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Salary range is $50,000—$55,000, commensurate with experience, in addition to a comprehensive benefits plan and an allotment of paid leave.
