$18- 25 per hour (DOE) Position Summary The Diocese of San Diego is seeking a reliable, service-oriented Facilities Assistant / Day Porter to help maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and well-functioning environment for parishioners, students, visitors, and staff.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid California driver's license, insurable driving record, and reliable transportation. Ability to perform custodial and light maintenance duties. Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Preferred Requirements Previous experience as a day porter, custodian, facilities assistant, maintenance worker, handyman, or similar position. Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures, facility operations, and workplace safety practices. Experience with painting, carpentry, drywall repair, plumbing, electrical work, or general building maintenance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong commitment to customer service and hospitality. Ability to identify facility needs and proactively address issues. Basic knowledge of cleaning equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to establish positive working relationships with staff, contractors, and visitors. Sound judgment, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail. Ability to work safely in an office environment. Growth & Development Opportunity This position offers a unique opportunity to develop hands-on facilities maintenance skills while serving in a day porter role. Employees who demonstrate initiative and aptitude will have opportunities to learn preventative maintenance, basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general facility repair skills under the direction of the Facility Supervisor. The role is ideal for someone interested in growing into a Maintenance Technician or Facilities Maintenance position over time. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to perform moderate to heavy manual labor including frequent bending, walking and lifting up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the pastoral center, as well as maneuver throughout the facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events.
