Job Description

Facility Operations Manager I Summary Clean Harbors is seeking a Facility Operations Manager I to oversee daily plant operations and support the overall success of the facility. This role is responsible for managing multiple operational areas including drum pumping, drum dumping, tank farm operations, truck loading and offloading, wastewater treatment, fuels blending, and inventory management. The Facility Operations Manager I acts as second in command in the absence of the General Manager and plays a key role in driving safety, compliance, operational efficiency, employee development, and facility performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities Oversee daily plant operations including drum pumping, drum dumping, tank farm operations, truck loading/offloading, wastewater treatment, fuels blending, shredder operations, warehousing, and waste tracking processes Ensure all operations are conducted in compliance with DOT segregation requirements and facility permits Supervise and develop Operations Supervisors, Plant Foremen, and plant operations personnel across multiple shifts and departments Monitor waste routing and operational efficiencies to support facility throughput and profitability Partner closely with the General Manager on hiring, employee development, performance management, and operational planning Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production, safety, and facility performance Develop and communicate daily production goals while ensuring execution across operational teams Ensure employees follow all Health & Safety policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) Maintain ownership of area-specific permit compliance requirements and environmental regulations Hold employees accountable for safe work practices and operational expectations Perform additional duties as assigned based on business needs
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field preferred 5-7 years of plant operations experience required Previous supervisory or management experience in an industrial or hazardous waste environment preferred DOT training required Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills Experience with site-specific plant operations including: Drum pumping and drum dumping Tank farm operations Truck loading/offloading Wastewater treatment Fuels blending Shredder operations Inventory and waste tracking systems Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment Strong understanding of safety regulations, environmental compliance, and operational procedures Ability to work both independently and within a team environment Travel up to 10% may be required Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, crouch, and lift as needed throughout the workday Ability to wear a respirator and pass fit testing requirements Ability to work in loud industrial environments Must be able to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation EEO Statement Clean Harbors is an equal opportunity employer.
