Class Summary The Project Coordinator - Facilities Management serves as a key operational leader within the Sheriff's Office Support Section. The Support Section is responsible for coordinating facilities-related projects, overseeing daily operations of trades and building services, and supporting leadership in the execution of strategic initiatives. This position operates within a secure detention environment and plays a critical role in maintaining the safety, functionality, and efficiency of all facility systems. Due to the unique nature of a correctional facility, experience in secure or mission-critical environment is highly valued, as the facility must remain fully operational at all times while adhering to strict safety and security protocols. Job Description The Project Coordinator manages and coordinates facilities maintenance, repair, and capital projects across a large, complex, and continuously operating detention campus. This position serves as a liaison between leadership, internal teams, contractors, and other County departments to ensure work is planned, executed, and completed effectively. The role includes oversight of trades operations and building services functions, coordination of vendors and contracts, and continuous evaluation of operational processes to improve efficiency and service delivery. Work is performed in a secure detention environment requiring strict adherence to security protocols, including tool accountability, controlled movement, escort coordination, and heightened situational awareness. The position must balance operational efficiency with safety and security considerations in a 24/7 mission-critical facility. Essential Duties Supervises, evaluates, and supports staff within Trades and Building Services divisions Coordinates and oversees facilities-related projects, including maintenance, repairs, and capital improvements Plans, prioritizes, and assigns work to ensure timely and efficient completion of tasks Serves as a liaison between leadership, internal stakeholders, contractors, and external agencies Monitors contractor performance and ensures compliance with contract requirements and facility standards Assists with development and implementation of operational strategies and process improvements Evaluates workflows, identifies inefficiencies, and implements solutions to enhance performance Supports budget planning, resource allocation, and project tracking Prepares reports, correspondence, and updates for leadership Ensures compliance with safety standards, policies, and applicable regulations Responds to operational needs in a 24/7 detention environment, including after-hours situations as required Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Public Administration, OR An equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience in facilities management, construction, or trades supervision sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the position. Minimum of three (3) years of experience demonstrating ability to operate effectively within a high-security, continuously operating environment with strict safety, accountability, and procedural requirements; and manage projects, coordinate operations, supervise personnel, or support senior leadership functions. Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications include 5 years of experience performing the following: Facilities maintenance, construction, or building operations within a large or complex environment Supervise multiple trades disciplines (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, construction, etc.) Coordinate contractors, vendors, and service agreements Demonstrate leadership, communication, and organizational skills Speak English, Romanian, Spanish, etc Work previously performed within a correctional, detention, or similarly secure facility environment Execution of security protocols, including tool control, controlled movement, escort procedures, and contraband prevention Operate in a 24/7 critical environment where operations cannot be interrupted (e.g., detention, healthcare, or other mission-critical facilities) Work at a facility with an inmate or restricted population environment Other Job Requirements/Information Public safety background investigation, including criminal history, motor vehicle records, and fingerprinting On-call rotation and after-hours response, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed Grade The grade for this position is 105. Salary will be dependent on education and experience. Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
