August 2026 Join the Four Rivers Crew Four Rivers Charter Public School seeks an experienced, collaborative, and solutions-oriented Facilities Manager to join our Operations Team. Located in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Four Rivers is an EL Education college preparatory charter public school serving approximately 220 students in grades 7-12. For more than twenty years, our mission has been to educate young people for lives of learning and service through rigorous academics, meaningful community engagement, character development, and high-quality work. At Four Rivers, we believe that a well-maintained campus is essential to student learning and a strong school culture. The Facilities Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that our buildings, grounds, and vehicles are safe, welcoming, and well cared for. This position combines hands-on maintenance with long-term planning, project management, and collaboration to support the daily operations of our school. As the primary facilities professional for our stand-alone public school district, the Facilities Manager is a proactive problem solver who anticipates needs, builds systems, and takes pride in creating an environment where students and staff can do their best work every day. Position Overview The Facilities Manager oversees the maintenance, safety, and long-term stewardship of the Four Rivers campus. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Operations, this position develops and implements preventive maintenance systems, manages facility improvement projects, coordinates contractors and vendors, oversees school vehicle maintenance, and works closely with custodial staff to ensure the campus remains clean, safe, and fully operational. Primary ResponsibilitiesFacilities Planning & Preventive Maintenance Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance plan for all building systems, grounds, and equipment. Create and maintain an annual facilities calendar that schedules recurring inspections, seasonal maintenance, and regulatory requirements. Prioritize facility needs across short-, medium-, and long-term maintenance and capital improvement plans. Monitor the condition of school buildings, grounds, and equipment, recommending improvements that protect school assets and support long-term sustainability. Project Management Plan, coordinate, and oversee facility improvement projects from planning through completion. Determine whether work should be completed in-house or by outside contractors. Complete repairs when appropriate or hire, coordinate, and supervise qualified contractors. Resolve maintenance concerns promptly while communicating project timelines and progress with school leadership. Serve as the primary liaison with vendors, contractors, inspectors, and service providers, ensuring quality work and cost-effective service. Campus Operations Perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, and general building upkeep. Coordinate required inspections and maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including fire safety systems, elevators, HVAC, water systems, sprinkler systems, and related building requirements. Develop and maintain a facilities work order and maintenance tracking system. Maintain facility records, warranties, maintenance logs, and contractor documentation. Custodial & Grounds Leadership Partner with the custodial staff and Director of Finance & Operations to ensure the campus is consistently clean, safe, attractive, and well maintained. Coordinate seasonal projects, deep cleaning, and summer maintenance work. Support ongoing improvements to the school's buildings, grounds, and outdoor learning spaces. School Vehicles Oversee the maintenance, inspections, registration, and repair of school vehicles. Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and ensure vehicles remain safe and ready for daily use. Support driver training and documentation as needed. Budget & Resource Management Assist in developing and managing the annual facilities budget. Monitor expenditures and recommend cost-effective maintenance and repair solutions. Coordinate purchasing of maintenance equipment, custodial supplies, and facility materials. Support procurement and contract management for facility-related services. Emergency Preparedness & School Operations Support school emergency preparedness by maintaining facility readiness and coordinating seasonal safety inspections. Respond appropriately to building emergencies and coordinate repairs to minimize disruption to school operations. Participate in school meetings and perform other responsibilities consistent with the position as assigned by the Director of Finance & Operations. QualificationsRequired Experience in facilities management, building operations, construction, or a related field. Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and workplace safety regulations. Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, and facility improvement projects. Ability to independently prioritize multiple projects and manage competing deadlines. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace. Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions. Preferred Experience working in a school, municipal, higher education, or nonprofit setting. Supervisory experience with custodial or maintenance staff. Familiarity with Massachusetts public procurement practices and school safety requirements. Experience developing preventive maintenance schedules and managing capital improvement projects.
