Learn More About Montgomery Parks https://www.montgomeryparks.org/ Examples of Important Duties Facility Operations and Programming Manage daily operations at the Wheaton Miniature Train and Carousel and the Wheaton Sports Pavilion. Work a schedule that oversees programs and events, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays. Oversee programs, camps, rentals, and special events at both facilities. Review and approve instructor payments and assist with program registrations. Track participation and trends to evaluate and improve programming. Establish and maintain operating procedures, including hours, rules, and safety practices. Coordinate facility and equipment maintenance and repairs. Collaborates on project planning and facility improvements. Staff Leadership and Guest Experience Supervise designated staff. Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate seasonal staff. Ensure staff complete required training, including CPR and First Aid, customer service, and youth camp standards. Provide daily supervision and operational support to facility, program, and camp staff. Coordinate schedules for rentals, camps, parties, and special events. Lead customer service efforts and set expectations for professional, respectful interactions with the public. Budget, Administration, and Marketing Prepare and manage facility budgets, including projected revenues and expenses. Monitor financial activity, prepare reports, and fee recommendations. Manage administrative tasks such as cash handling and deposits, inventory tracking, timecard approvals, maintenance checklists, and staffing documentation. Support promotion of facilities, programs, and amenities in coordination with marketing staff. Assist with website updates, social media content, and printed materials. Safety and Compliance Coordinate annual safety inspections for the miniature train and carousel. Ensure compliance with Maryland Amusement Ride Regulations and applicable safety standards. Skills and Characteristics That Support Success Ability to lead staff and communicate clearly and effectively. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities. Comfort using data to inform decisions and improve operations. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with office, scheduling, email, and reporting tools. Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds. Comprehensive knowledge of recreational facility operations, safety standards, budgeting, program planning, and cash handling. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management, Facility Management, Education, Business Administration, Physical Education, Communication, Leisure Services, or any related field. One (1) year of responsible professional experience working in a facility related to parks, recreation, leisure services, or area of required specialty (e.g., arts, performing arts, tennis, aquatics, ice rinks). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total five (5) years. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of the position. Contingent upon area of assignment, some positions in this class may require valid: (a) operating license (e.g., county pool operator, childcare license) as appropriate; (b) First Aid, CPR, and automated external defibrillator (AED) certifications; or (c) certifications as related to assignment (e.g., Lifeguard Instruction, Fundamentals of Gymnastics). Pass Commission medical exam.Supplemental Information Classification Specification:
Recreation/Park Facility Manager I May be subject to medical, drug, and alcohol testing. Working Conditions Works inside and outside an assigned facility, which may operate seven days per week. Works extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. On-call to respond to emergency situations as required. Frequently required to remain stationary, operate motor vehicles, and communicate and exchange information with internal staff and the public. Must be able to see both short and long distances. Occasionally lifts equipment and other items weighing up to 49 pounds. Ascends and descends ladders and stairs.
