Oversees maintenance and security of facilities; oversees renovation projects and monitors work to improve energy efficiency, productivity or employee safety. May work in manufacturing and production, or manage hotels, small apartment buildings, trailer parks or recreational facilities.
$73,377- $93,929 (based on experience) The County of Aroostook is seeking an experienced Facilities Director to oversee the maintenance and administration of County-owned facilities throughout Aroostook County, including the Aroostook County Jail, courthouses, administrative offices, and other facilities. Reporting to the County Administrator, this position provides leadership for facility operations, maintenance, custodial services, budgeting, regulatory compliance, contract administration, and project management to support County operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee maintenance, custodial services, and grounds operations across multiple County locations, including supervision and development of department personnel. Develop and manage departmental budgets and support facility planning and improvement initiatives. Manage facility maintenance, renovation, and capital improvement projects, including contractor coordination and budget oversight. Oversee contracts, lease agreements, rental sites, procurement activities, vendors, and related billing. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, inspections, permits, licenses, and facility requirements. Chair the County Safety Committee and coordinate safety initiatives, policy review, and hazard surveys with Maine Municipal Association Risk Management Services.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Associate degree in a related field; equivalent education and experience may be considered. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience:
5-10 years of progressively responsible facilities, maintenance, construction, or related experience, including supervision. Knowledge of building systems, facility operations, safety practices, and maintenance principles, with experience managing projects, budgets, and vendors. Public sector experience preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Work Location:
This position works from both the Caribou and Houlton County offices, with travel to other County facilities, including Presque Isle and Fort Kent, as needed. Location may vary based on operational needs and the successful candidate's location.
