Sanitation & Facilities Director Position Overview Status:

Part-Time (Not to exceed 20 hours per month)

Compensation:

$20.00 - $30.00 / hour (Based on experience)

Select Board Essential Job DutiesSanitation & Transfer Station Management Staffing & Coverage:

Maintain adequate staffing levels at the Transfer Station. Actively fill in during regular employee absences or coordinate qualified backup coverage.

Supervision:

Direct on-site employees regarding daily tasks required to maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard.

Training & Compliance:

Conduct annual, web-based compliance training for all station employees. Stay current on changing waste storage regulations.

Inspections & Reporting:

Perform weekly facility inspections, ensure Universal Waste logs are accurately maintained, and file the annual Transfer Station report with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for licensing.

Vendor Management:

Coordinate directly with third-party vendors for the scheduled pickup of tires, refrigerator/freon units, and universal waste. Research operational cost-saving initiatives.

Municipal Facilities & Grounds Maintenance Building Maintenance:

Perform routine repairs and general maintenance on all municipal buildings as directed by Town Administration.

Seasonal Upkeep:

Conduct annual pressure washing of town building exteriors. Paint fences, outbuildings, and accessory structures as requested.

Groundskeeping:

Perform weed whacking and brush trimming at the Solar Array, storage buildings, and town playground. Remove fallen limbs, broken branches, and debris from all municipal properties.

Event Support:

Assist with the physical setup and breakdown for local events, including elections, town meetings, and Community Days.

Project Coordination:

Correspond with independent contractors to secure estimates and quotes for special municipal projects. Job Requirements & QualificationsEducation & Experience High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous administrative experience preferred. Prior knowledge of or experience in the recycling and waste management industry is preferred.

Skills & Abilities Autonomy:

Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

Tech Literacy:

Computer proficient (capable of handling web-based training, digital logs, and email correspondence).

Communication:

Ability to communicate clearly and verbally in English. Strong interpersonal skills to maintain productive working relationships with staff, contractors, and the general public.

Availability:

Must maintain a flexible schedule and possess the ability to respond to municipal service requests within 2 business days. Physical Demands Must be able to stand, bend, sit, and climb ladders. Must be capable of safely lifting and moving objects up to 50 lbs.

Equipment Requirements Transportation:

Reliable transportation required; a pickup truck or a vehicle equipped with a utility trailer is highly preferred for moving debris and tools around town.

Standard Tools:

Must possess general hand tools, a shovel, a rake, and a chain/pole saw.

Specialized Equipment:

A weed whacker and power washer are required (the Town can supply these if the candidate does not own them). This role is a perfect fit for a retired tradesperson, a local property manager, or someone with a flexible primary job looking for a steady, community-oriented side income.
