Summary - The Facility Manager leads the daily operation of our pet boarding and daycare facility. This hands-on manager maintains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for every pet and customer, while guiding the team, managing schedules, and upholding consistent standards of animal care. The ideal candidate is a dependable leader who communicates clearly, stays calm under pressure, and can balance animal care, employee management, customer service, and administrative responsibilities. This is an active, on-site role for someone who enjoys working with both animals and people.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administration and Business Performance:
Maintain accurate customer, pet, employee, incident, and operational records. Use facility-management software to oversee reservations, payments, pet profiles, vaccination records, and service notes. Support payroll, timekeeping, deposits, refunds, and other administrative processes. Monitor occupancy, labor costs, supply expenses, customer satisfaction, and service quality. Prepare reports and communicate operational needs, risks, and opportunities to ownership or senior management. Help implement promotions, service improvements, and business-development initiatives.
Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, coach, and evaluate facility employees. Assign daily responsibilities and confirm that all tasks are completed to standard. Lead staff training in animal behavior, safe handling, cleaning protocols, customer service, emergency response, and company policies. Monitor attendance, labor hours, staffing levels, and overtime. Provide timely feedback and address performance or conduct concerns professionally. Promote a respectful, accountable, and team-oriented workplace. Lead by example and assist directly with animal care, cleaning, customer service, and other duties when needed.
Customer Service:
Create a friendly and professional experience for pet owners. Answer questions about services, policies, reservations, pet requirements, and care routines. Address customer concerns promptly, calmly, and professionally. Communicate clearly with owners about their pets' behavior, health, activities, or incidents. Build trust and encourage customer retention through dependable service. Assist with tours, evaluations, enrollment, and the introduction of new pets to the facility.
Facility Operations:
Direct daily boarding, daycare, feeding, cleaning, enrichment, and customer check-in and check-out activities. Maintain a clean, organized, odor-controlled, and hazard-free facility. Inspect kennels, play areas, fencing, equipment, HVAC systems, laundry areas, and security features regularly. Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs with approved vendors. Monitor inventory and order food, cleaning products, pet-care supplies, office materials, and safety equipment. Support occupancy planning and reservation management, particularly during holidays and peak periods. Confirm that opening and closing procedures are completed accurately. Maintain compliance with applicable animal-care, workplace-safety, sanitation, and business regulations.
Animal Care and Safety:
Ensure every pet receives attentive, compassionate care according to company standards and owner instructions. Monitor animal behavior, health, comfort, feeding, hydration, medication, playgroups, and lodging conditions. Enforce safe handling practices, playgroup requirements, staff-to-pet ratios, vaccination policies, and sanitation procedures. Identify signs of illness, stress, injury, or behavioral concern and respond appropriately. Manage pet incidents and emergencies, including contacting owners, veterinarians, or emergency services when necessary. Maintain accurate records for feeding, medications, activities, health observations, and incidents. Ensure pets are properly identified and securely transferred during arrival, departure, and movement throughout the facility. Qualifications - To perform the job successfully, an individual should possess the following qualifications: High School diploma or GED; with continuing education in the veterinary, dog behavior management, or related field preferred Pet first aid/CPR certified or willing to acquire certification Previous dog handling and training experience Team member training experience At least 1-2 years of supervisory or team-lead experience Roughly 2-5 years working in boarding, daycare, kennels, shelters, veterinary offices, grooming, or another animal-care setting
Physical and Working Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and remain active for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to safely handle dogs of various sizes, strengths, breeds, and temperaments. Comfort working around barking, pet hair, odors, cleaning products, and animal waste. Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call responsibilities.
