This is an excellent opportunity for a proven leader who understands building systems and maintenance operations and is ready to help guide the people, projects, and planning behind a diverse portfolio of County facilities. Working closely with the Director of Facilities Management, the Deputy Director provides leadership for day-to-day operations while helping shape the department's long-term approach to maintenance, equipment replacement, capital improvements, budgeting, and operational efficiency. This position also serves as department head in the Director's absence. In this role, you will: Provide leadership and direction to Facilities Management employees and directly supervise department supervisors. Oversee maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs, and replacement of County buildings, equipment, and grounds. Help develop maintenance and operating procedures that improve efficiency, consistency, and quality. Coordinate vendors, contractors, inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities. Inspect facilities, identify maintenance and repair needs, and ensure quality standards are met. Develop equipment and facility replacement schedules using life-cycle analysis and provide cost information for budget planning. Assist with strategic planning, contract negotiations, vendor relations, and conflict resolution. Support the development of project scopes, priorities, budgets, and capital improvement plans. Manage inventories of tools, equipment, parts, and supplies. Maintain quality control and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements. Serve as the department head when the Director is unavailable. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who combines strong facilities knowledge with effective leadership and sound judgment . The successful candidate should be comfortable moving between strategic planning and day-to-day operations and working collaboratively with employees, vendors, County leadership, and other departments. Candidates should bring knowledge and experience in areas such as building maintenance, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, construction, and/or contract administration. The ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, diagrams, operating instructions, and maintenance documentation is also important. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with advanced training and/or coursework in a related area. Candidates must also have five or more years of progressively responsible experience in management and building maintenance operations, including experience with areas such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and/or contract administration. At least three years of experience in a lead or supervisory capacity is required. Preferred Experience Experience with HVAC-related fans, pumps, equipment, and controls; fire sprinkler systems; refrigeration systems; and/or security door control systems is preferred. The Work This is not solely a desk-based leadership position. While a significant portion of the work takes place in a professional office environment, the Deputy Director also works throughout County facilities, construction areas, mechanical spaces, and outdoor locations. The position requires the ability to inspect facilities and equipment, use hand and power tools when necessary, climb ladders and access confined or difficult spaces, and lift and transport objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Some work outside normal business hours may be required. Why This Role?   • Friday; Occasional weekend and outside of business hours work required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Planning or related field; and four years of experience in planning or engineering design or Master's Degree in related field and two years of experience in planning or engineering. Must be certified through the AICP
  • American Institute of Certified Planners, or have the ability to obtain certification within two years.
Must have a valid driver's license and be able to drive a county vehicle.
