Sexton Reports to:Parish Administrator/Rector Overview:
The Sexton has responsibility for the general good maintenance and appearance of the Church Buildingsand Grounds. The goal is to keep our buildings and facilities operating in such a manner that Church Services and other activities run as smoothly and comfortably as possible. The successful candidate will be able to problem solve in a timely manner.Work Schedule:
19 hours flex time with agreed upon weekly expectations.. Any deviation from the prior agreed upon schedule should be made with the approval of the the Parish Administrator, Additional or flexible work hours may be required at times depending on special events such as Fall Bazaar, Weddings, Funerals, Holy Week and Christmas, etc .Compensation:
will be at an hourly rate approved by the Vestry and commensurate with experience.Job Duties:
Daily 1- Check with Parish Administrator for any special assignments as well as any requests left in Sexton's box. It will also be helpful to check calendar of events posted in office. 2
- Check Heat/AC in all buildings for proper function. Access HVAC Controls over internet and update based on daily/weekly schedule. Contact Junior Warden promptly if a malfunction is suspected. 3
- Check with Parish Administrator to determine proper set up of tables, chairs for upcoming Church Activities. to insure set up for all Parish Services including weddings, funerals, special events, group meetings, and holiday services. 4
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, wash, clean, dust and/or touch up in buildings as necessary (floors, walls, window sills, furniture, etc.) between weekly visits by the cleaning service. 5
- Empty all waste baskets and deposit in trash containers. Recycle. Place all trash and trash containers and recycling bins by curb on the appropriate days for the city to pick up. 6
- Maintain presence on Church grounds for purposes of hospitality and security as needed with Vendors related to the building maintenance . 7
- Check all light bulbs in all buildings and replace as necessary. 8
- Check restrooms and restock soap, towels, and tissue as necessary. Maintain inventory 9
- Sweep walkways, steps, and sidewalks around Church Buildings as necessary to maintain a neat "cared for" appearance between weekly visits by the Lawn Service. Maintain the parish playground. Weekly 1
- Check circuit breakers in all panel boxes. Investigate any thrown breakers and take appropriate action 2
- Check central fire alarm system in church building for proper function. 3
- Check all doors to insure proper function. Make adjustments if necessary. 4
- Check church pews and kneelers for proper function. 5
- Check all plumbing fixtures for leaks or needed adjustments and take corrective action. Consult with Parish Administrator if plumber is needed. 6
- Check gas level in tanks and contact the Propane Gas Company if you suspect gas will run out before the gas company's next routine fill-up. 7
- Check ice supply in ice maker and manage the routine maintenance 8
- Attend Staff meeting each week to monitor staff and building needs for events and maintenance Monthly Quarterly or sooner if needed 1
- Power Wash walkways and ramps , clean carpets. Maintain outdoor fountains 2
- Be responsive to any special needs of the Parish Staff or Altar Guild regarding building usage by staff. 3
- Report any breakdown or building maintenance problem to the Parish Administrator 4
- Become aware of and communicative with special contractors the church employs such as cleaning service, yard & grounds contractor, HVAC maintenance, painters, plumbers, electricians, etc . 5
- Cemetery maintenance as needed Qualifications 1 Prior custodial, maintenance or facilities experience 2 Basic knowledge of building systems ( electrical, plumbing, HVAC) helpful.
