Position Overview We are shifting away from a traditional "head kennel tech" model to find a second, system-minded, operationally excellent Manager . In this role, you will act as a true operational executive, directly reporting to the business owners and taking full accountability for team leadership, animal safety, strict administrative compliance & facility profitability in tandem with our other Manager. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is equally competent at managing pack dynamics, controlling labor budgets, and building high-impact relationships with our human clients. 1.
Core Responsibilities Team Leadership & Labor Optimization Active Staff Supervision:
Oversee, direct, and motivate front-desk coordinators and camp counselors on an hourly and daily basis. Maintain an environment where counselors work with you, not for you.
Recruitment & Pipeline:
Lead interviews, hiring, and employee onboarding to keep our facility staffed with top-tier talent.
Labor Cost Controls:
Actively optimize daily labor costs by dynamically managing staffing levels (e.g., adjusting start times or sending staff home early when building occupancy shifts).
Training & Performance:
Assist senior staff to conduct initial hands-on training, follow up on progress, and deliver standardized education in canine body language, pack play, and first aid. Document performance, handle staff conflicts, and issue verbal/written disciplinary actions or warnings when necessary. 2.
Pack Safety & Operational Oversight Play Yard Dynamics:
Directly monitor and structure multiple active play yards, ensuring dogs are grouped accurately by size, temperament, and playing styles.
Behavioral Assessments:
Supervise or personally conduct comprehensive "Doggy Interviews" for new daycare and boarding candidates to defend the safety of the group environment.
Veterinary-Grade Sanitation:
Enforce rigid cleaning and disinfection checklists across all kennels, common yards, laundry zones, and food prep areas to prevent pathogens and maintain an odor-free environment.
Incident & Emergency Management:
Serve as the first line of decision-making for staff during field issues. Act decisively during behavioral or medical emergencies, coordinate immediate veterinary transport, log rigid documentation, and communicate transparently with pet parents. 3.
Front Desk, Database & Client Relations Front Desk Mastery:
Extensively master all front desk customer service, scheduling, and phone protocols. Serve as the welcoming face of the company.
Gingr Database Administration:
Maintain absolute accuracy within our facility management platform (Gingr). Ensure guest cards, strict vaccination records (Bordetella, Rabies, Distemper), and specific feeding/medical checklists are tracked perfectly.
Lead Conversion & Capacity:
Walk clients through solutions with empathy and turn prospective inquiries into paid, booked appointments. Actively manage boarding, daycare, and grooming spaces to maximize revenue without causing overcrowding. 4.
Facility Maintenance & Business Alignment Facility Audits:
Conduct daily walkthroughs to check fences, safety gate latches, continuous-flow drainage, lighting, and HVAC/ventilation systems for ultimate camper safety.
Inventory & Supplies:
Monitor utilization and communicate to owners when reordering for facility diets, professional grooming items, retail stocks, PPE, and chemical disinfectants needs to be executed.
Ownership Collaboration:
One of the owners is almost always available. In addition, the manager we keep an open line of communication at all times/hours with owners and attend meetings with the owners to report on facility metrics, employee concerns, etc., as needed. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Your success in this role will be quantified directly using the following targets:
Safety & Incident Rate:
Maintain zero preventable injuries; ensure dog-to-dog behavioral incidents stay below <0.5% of total weekly building occupancy (Evaluated Monthly).
Staff Labor:
Keep labor costs at an absolute minimum by pushing back employee start times and/or sending staff home early whenever possible.
Compliance & Data Accuracy:
Secure 100% perfect compliance on current vaccination records for all active dogs in the building with zero missing medical checklists (Evaluated Weekly). Customer Satisfaction (CSAT): Maintain a 4.9+ star rating across public review platforms and ensure customer issues are addressed and resolved
IN LESS THAN 24
hours, if not sooner (Evaluated Monthly).
Qualifications & Job Requirements Experience:
Minimum 3-5 years of direct supervisory or management experience in a high-volume pet care facility, busy veterinary hospital, or intensive hospitality/operations environment.
Canine Expertise:
Deep, practical understanding of canine body language, complex pack dynamics, and group play safety. Professional credentials (e.g., PACCC, IBPSA) are highly preferred.
Technical Literacy:
Proficient with cloud-based pet care software ecosystems (Gingr or equivalent platform interfaces) along with everyday digital productivity suites.
Physical Demands:
Comfort standing and walking for long shifts, handling dogs of all temperaments and sizes, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Schedule Flexibility:
Full-time position requiring a hands-on presence. This role requires shared participation in shifts across our 365-day operational calendar, including opening shifts (starting at 6:15 AM M-F / 7:30 AM Sat), closing shifts (7:00 PM), weekends, and peak holiday boarding seasons.
