A Facilities Manager manages the facilities of a company or organization, including buildings and grounds, equipment, supplies and staff. Oversees maintenance and security of facilities; oversees renovation projects and monitors work to improve energy efficiency, productivity or employee safety. May work in manufacturing and production, or manage hotels, small apartment buildings, trailer parks or recreational facilities.
The Director of Facilities and Campus Operations is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the campus facilities and grounds, including 18 buildings on approximately 45 acres of property. The Director supervises an average of three direct reports, as well as outside contractors. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Facilities and Campus Operations also works closely with the Chief Operating Officer and the Senior Accounting Manager to ensure smooth, safe, secure, and sustainable operations. This position requires hands-on skills and abilities as well as leadership, strategic planning, technical, and management skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the oversight of day-to-day building maintenance and repairs, janitorial services, grounds management, equipment and vehicle maintenance, special event and facility rental set-ups and breakdowns, trash/recycling, and security. Provide leadership and oversight for the hiring and training of maintenance staff, cultivating a positive, effective, and collaborative staff team. Ensure a positive and safe experience for daily visitors, staff, volunteers, and resident artists. Ensure that Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations are followed. Coordinate response systems for emergencies, alarm response, and other after-hour occurrences. Provide liaisonship with local and state agencies and stay informed on regulations. Create and implement a comprehensive plan for the ongoing maintenance of facilities and grounds (preventive maintenance, equipment replacement, tree removal, etc.). Manage an ongoing work order system. Oversee the set-up and breakdown of special weekend events and facility rentals. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in facilities management, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience. Knowledge of infrastructure and systems, including but not limited to electric, gas, plumbing, technology infrastructure, HVAC, drainage, and groundwater management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Experience negotiating and managing vendor and contractor contracts. Ability to plan strategically and manage multiple projects at one time. Familiar with best practices and regulations related to Americans with Disabilities Act compliance. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (email and Google Drive). Experience operating a forklift is preferred. Valid driver's license required. Physical Requirements Frequent walking on even and uneven ground. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb ladders and work in high spaces. Working in adverse weather conditions is occasionally required. Availability on weekends and evenings is required for special programs and events.
