Assistant Project Manager - Facilities/Capital Improvements MJ Peterson Real Estate - Amherst, NY About Us MJ Peterson Real Estate is a locally owned and family-operated property management company overseeing a diverse portfolio of 3,000 rental units across Western New York. We are committed to delivering high-quality housing while continually improving service efficiency and reducing reliance on outside vendors. Position Overview We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Assistant Project Manager - Facilities/Capital Improvements to work closely with the Director of Facilities to support the planning, coordination, and execution of capital improvement and facility-related projects. This role ensures projects are properly prioritized, well-documented, completed on time, and within budget. Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with the Director of Facilities to prioritize and execute maintenance and capital improvement projects.
  • Assist in managing capital improvement projects and subcontractors, including:
  • Tracking project progress
  • Updating management
  • Ensuring accurate documentation
  • Maintaining schedules and budgets
  • Support property evaluations by identifying deficiencies, assessing priorities, and organizing findings for presentation.
  • Collaborate with property management teams, on-site staff, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Assist with project scoping, bidding, contractor negotiations, and contractor selection.
  • Prepare and execute purchase orders and Capital Improvement documentation.
  • Track and report on project budgets, timelines, and materials.
  • Coordinate with municipal inspectors, architects, and engineers to ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
  • Monitor contractor adherence to scope of work, drawings, specifications, and safety standards.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices and building systems.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, depending on project needs.
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills. Proficient in Google Suite
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation abilities.
