Job Description

The Facilities, Grounds, & Visitor Experience Assistant will assist in multiple departments to help maintain Museum facilities, grounds, and assist with the visitor experience. The candidate should be able to work independently and as part of a team. The candidate should be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. The position is expected to learn streetcar operations to assist where needed.
Essential tasks related to facilities:
  • Assist with maintenance of all buildings, including cleaning gutters and painting as needed
  • Facilitate sprinkler and fire extinguisher inspections
  • Make small repairs as needed
  • Assist with access control system
  • Assist with phone and network system
  • Receive deliveries and assist in unloading trucks and storing supplies
  • Help maintain mobile and building maintenance equipment
  • Daily cleaning assistance, including setting up for events, taking out trash, cleaning floors as necessary, and managing cleaning services
  • Assist with grounds maintenance, including cutting grass, clearing snow, sweeping paved surfaces, emptying trash, and coordinating with Master Gardeners Essential tasks related to visitor experience:
  • Give age-appropriate tours of the Trolley Displaying Building and other museum areas.
  • Provide safe and educational trolley rides to educational groups.
  • Assist with education group supervision and engagement.
  • Maintain a safe environment for students, teachers, museum visitors, staff, and volunteers.
Additional duties:
  • Assist with streetcar operations when necessary (Museum will provide training).
  • Assists staff and volunteers during special events, programs, and private events.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Perform other duties that are consistent with the position. As part of this duty and responsibility, it is important to recognize that the Museum's management team is a small group and it will be necessary, from time to time, to provide support and assistance to other members of the team during the performance of their duties and responsibilities.
POSITION CHARACTERISTICS
This is a full-time non-exempt position that may require some weekend and evening hours as directed by Museum management or as necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a driver's license and be able to be placed on company insurance.
  • Good people skills.
  • Lift to 50 lbs./Ability to push and pull.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
  • Knowledge of standard methods, practices, occupational hazards, and safety rules.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners and cleaning compounds and solutions.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong and efficient work ethic.
  • Ability to drive standard manual transmission preferred.
  • Ability to do electrical and plumbing repairs is preferred.
  • Pleasant demeanor and attitude preferred.
REQUIREMENTS TO BE HIRED AND TO MAINTAIN THE POSITION
1. Obtain and maintain the appropriate background check clearances as defined in the Museum's policy for Volunteer and Employee Background Checks. 2. Be able to work at locations other than the Museum when necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
