We are seeking a Facilities & Grounds Director to provide strategic and operational leadership for the stewardship of IMS's physical campus, including its buildings, grounds, infrastructure, furnishings, and vehicle fleet. The Director is responsible for ensuring that IMS's facilities are safe, well maintained, environmentally responsible, and aligned with the organization's mission of supporting contemplative practice. The Director leads the Facilities & Grounds team, oversees departmental budgets and capital planning, manages contractor and vendor relationships, ensures regulatory compliance, and collaborates closely with organizational leadership to establish priorities for both daily operations and long-term campus stewardship. The salary range for this position is $75,000-$92,000/year. Primary Responsibilities Leadership & Management

• Provides leadership that creates a culture of trust, accountability, respect, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Recruits, hires, develops, coaches, and evaluates Facilities & Grounds staff, fostering both professional growth and high performance.
• Ensures employee performance through ongoing coaching, clear expectations, timely feedback, and performance management; partners with Human Resources and the Deputy Director on disciplinary actions when necessary.
• Establishes departmental priorities, allocates resources, and delegates work effectively while balancing daily operational needs with longer-term organizational priorities.
• Builds a collaborative, service-oriented department that works effectively with all IMS departments in support of retreat operations.
• Leads regular departmental meetings and maintains open, consistent communication with staff.
• Develops annual operating budgets and contributes to long-range capital planning for campus buildings, grounds, infrastructure, and equipment.
• Serves as a member of the IMS management team, contributing to organization-wide planning, problem solving, and strategic initiatives.
• Provides regular updates and recommendations to the Deputy Director regarding departmental operations, staffing, facilities planning, and emerging risks. Operations
• Oversees maintenance, repair, renovation, and improvement of all buildings, grounds, infrastructure, furnishings, and fleet vehicles.
• Develops and implements preventive maintenance programs that maximize the longevity, safety, and reliability of campus assets.
• Oversees campus safety systems, regulatory compliance, inspections, and emergency preparedness.
• Determines projects appropriate for outside contractors; selects, negotiates with, and manages contractors to ensure quality work completed on time and within budget.
• Develops multi-year maintenance and capital improvement plans in collaboration with organizational leadership.
• Oversees snow removal, seasonal grounds management, equipment maintenance, and emergency response planning.
• Ensures accurate maintenance records, key systems documentation, and regulatory documentation are maintained.
• Maintains sufficient on-call resources to respond to facilities emergencies.
• Stays informed about evolving building technologies, sustainability practices, regulatory requirements, and facilities management best practices.
• Supports and protects the retreat environment through thoughtful operational decisions that reflect IMS's ethical values and commitment to reducing harm.
• Due to the nature of the work, this position is eligible for limited remote work.
• Requires heavy physical work, sometimes in adverse weather conditions. Includes snow removal as well as lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Required to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays, as necessitated by retreat needs or facilities emergencies.
• Supports and protects silent retreat environment; upholds ethical principles. Qualifications/Experience
• Bachelor's degree in facilities management or a related field or equivalent experience.
• 6 years or more experience in maintenance and/or grounds leadership roles.
• Demonstrated success leading and developing teams in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
• Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Familiarity with or sincere interest in meditation or mindfulness preferred
