FACILITIES MANAGER, UNIVERSITY FRIENDS MEETING
University Friends Meeting, a community of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in the University District of Seattle, seeks a full-time Facilities Manager (FM) to oversee the care and maintenance of its two acre, two building campus. The primary purpose of this position is to support the community in using its campus safely and responsibly and fulfilling its obligation to be good stewards of the property. The FM works independently and is supervised by the Clerk of the Facilities Committee. The FM is expected to work in a manner consistent with Quaker values and practices. Responsibilities Facilities Management/Maintenance The Facilities Manager has primary responsibility for ensuring that the buildings, building systems, and grounds are well maintained and available for use by the UFM community and renters. Specifically, the Facilities Manager is responsible for: Hiring and managing contractors and overseeing their work Supervising contractors and volunteers to complete larger projects as directed by the Facilities Committee Scheduling routine maintenance and completing minor repair work Ensuring that the Meetinghouse is prepared to host the activities of our community and our renters Ensuring that our sidewalks, stairs, and parking lots are safe for use and working with volunteer gardeners to keep our grounds aesthetically pleasing Ensuring that all facilities-related work done by UFM employees is conducted in a safe manner that satisfies all health and safety and other regulatory requirements Expenditures The Facilities Manager tracks and documents all facilities-related expenses in coordination with the Finance Committee. Specifically, the Facilities Manager is responsible for: Obtaining receipts and identifying the purpose of each expenditure Obtaining the approval of the Clerk of the Facilities Committee for expenditures above a predetermined threshold Safety and Security The Facilities Manager is responsible for security on the campus and for assisting the Clerk of the Facilities Committee in keeping a log of security incidents. Specifically, the Facilities Manager is responsible for: Dealing with unauthorized people on campus Repairing damage caused by graffiti and other acts of vandalism Dealing with unauthorized vehicles parked in our parking lots Contacting emergency personnel as necessary to protect the safety of legitimate users of our facilities Liaison with Tenants The Facilities Manager serves as the main point of contact for the long-term building tenants and short-term room renters and serves as the liaison between leasing organizations and UFM, especially the Finance and Facilities committee. Specifically, the Facilities Manager is responsible for: Addressing maintenance needs of leased spaces expeditiously Supporting the transition process for new tenants in the Meetinghouse and Quaker House Coordinating with the Office Manager to track short-term room rentals and prevent scheduling problems Ensuring spaces are ready for short-term room renters, including physical set-up and building opening and closing Ensuring travellers' rooms are cleaned and readied for use Qualifications Experience managing facilities and multiple complex and overlapping tasks with minimal supervision Experience hiring and managing contractors, overseeing their work, and evaluating their workmanship Skilled at working with individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds, including the clientele of our tenants Basic building and grounds maintenance skills, including competence with basic construction tools and processes Outstanding reliability, accountability, and trustworthiness Good oral and written English communication skills Basic bookkeeping (recording expenses, income, and reimbursements) and computer skills Criminal background check required Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) Familiarity with the city of Seattle and environs Experience with managing volunteers Compensation The Facilities Manager is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Hourly pay is $22.32 or $46,426 annual salary. Compensation includes an on-site apartment, all utilities including internet, and an off-street parking space. Residing in this apartment is a requirement of the job, and occupancy of it is conditioned on the FM's continuing employment. Benefits include a quarterly Quality of Life stipend and holiday, vacation, and sick leave as per the personnel policies.
