Mammoth Lakes, CA Role Overview The Yard Service / Forklift Operator provides customer service assistance to retail and professional customers while supporting daily yard operations. This role assembles customer orders, prepares materials for delivery, operates forklifts and milling machinery, and maintains a safe and organized lumber yard environment. Key Responsibilities Always provide the highest level of customer service. Assist customers in selecting materials and safely loading products into vehicles. Operate a forklift to load and unload delivery trucks and customer vehicles. Perform in-counts and out-counts of materials to ensure accuracy and completeness. Read and understand work orders and delivery orders to ensure correct order fulfillment. Operate milling machinery as required to prepare materials to order specifications. Assist delivery drivers with loading and unloading deliveries. Maintain knowledge of product inventory and proper material usage. Maintain appearance, placement, display, and inventory of building materials. Maintain a clean and safe yard environment, addressing safety hazards proactively. Accurately complete required forms and documentation.
Required Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
Minimum three (3) months operating a forklift, lumber milling equipment, general construction, or related experience.
Technical Skills:
Ability to perform basic math, read orders, follow directions, complete forms; ability to successfully complete a forklift operator training program and required testing.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, stoop, reach, push, pull, and balance; manual dexterity and coordination; ability to lift more than 50 pounds regularly and over 100 pounds occasionally; ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
License:
Valid California Driver License without restrictions and ability to be insured to operate company vehicles. Forklift certification. Preferred Qualifications Experience in hardware, lumber, or building materials industry. Prior customer service experience in a retail environment. Core Competencies Customer service orientation.
