Forklift Operator and Material Handler Job Description The Forklift Operator and Material Handler works in a large, clean, and organized distribution center to build customized pallets of canned and dry goods for shipment to grocery stores and retailers. This role involves order picking, packing, and operating a stand-up forklift in a fast-paced production environment while following voice-directed instructions through a headset. Responsibilities Pick and pack canned and dry goods accurately based on customer orders. Build and stage pallets customized to each client's order for shipment to grocery stores and retailers. Operate a stand-up forklift safely and efficiently throughout the distribution center. Move between designated warehouse locations to collect and assemble products according to voice-directed instructions. Use a headset system to receive real-time picking directions and location information. Ensure pallets are stacked, wrapped, and prepared correctly for transport and loading. Handle general labor tasks related to order fulfillment, material handling, and pallet organization. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures within the distribution center. Work effectively in a fast-paced production environment while meeting productivity and accuracy targets. Essential Skills Experience operating a stand-up forklift or strong willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. At least 6 months of forklift experience; if not, at least 1 year of experience working in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Ability to stand on feet for 8-10 hours per day. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively. Order picking and packing experience in a warehouse or distribution setting. Comfort working in a production-driven environment with performance expectations. Ability to follow voice-directed instructions via headset and navigate warehouse locations accurately. Strong attention to detail to ensure correct products and quantities are picked and packed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a large distribution center or similar logistics environment. Experience in general labor, material handling, or order fulfillment. Familiarity with pallet building and staging for outbound shipments. Reliable attendance and the ability to work consistent shifts. Strong focus on safety and adherence to warehouse procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eldridge, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr.
