Job Description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Perform a number of duties in the continuous mill that provide the mill the best opportunity to operate at an efficient level. Be able to perform the exit operator's duties at an adequate level during the absence of any of the continuous mill operators.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1.
Compactor:
a. Provide a strong influence by self-example that "safety first" is truly our behavior. b. Process coils through compaction procedures to designated length and shape. c. Apply identification tag to coil per work instructions and verify matching of information with the identification tag. d. Communicate with inspector, reforming tube op, roller operator, and shift lead concerning the quality of the coils after compaction. e. Maintain properly cleanliness of machine and area in general. f.

Work diligently on compact coils during a delay or gaps in production flow unless otherwise directed by shift leader. g. Monitor coil handling by tow motor driver to ensure first quality coils during the parking process. h. Participate in preventive and breakdown maintenance, working closely with maintenance personnel in correcting equipment malfunctions, troubleshooting problems and maximizing equipment output. 2.
Stacker:
a. Maintain safe and efficient operation of the stacker, wire machine, and exit operation of bundles. b. Monitor all cameras in area of operation. c. Ensure proper separation of different grades of material and sizes. d. Set wire tie machine to the number of ties that adequately holds the bundle together for future processing. e. Communicate with saw operator to ensure utilization of yield and processing. 3.
Manual Pockets:
a. Safe and efficient operations of overhead crane. b. Ensure proper separation of different grades of material and sizes. c. Communicate with saw operator to ensure utilization of yield and processing. d. Monitor and assist in manual banding operation of material. e. Maintain adequate inventory of banding material and clips. f.

Inspect and ensure proper operation of manual banding equipment.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Other duties as assigned 2. Participation in relevant continuous improvement program
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Working knowledge of all functions of the rolling mill equipment
  • Excellent communication skills including both verbal and written
PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Mobility in plant
  • While performing the duties of (this job), the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
  • The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Visual ability with or without correction
  • Communication abilities
HEALTH AND SAFETY
1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations 2. Follow Company safety rules 3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor or Manager immediately 4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or worn: a. Safety shoes b. Safety glasses c. Hearing protection d. Hard Hat Some areas may require additional personal protective equipment such as: e. Respirators; the respirator requires you to be clean shaven in order to comply with company policies and procedures as well as OSHA Regulations. f. Fire Retardant clothing g. Acid PPE 5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy 6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines 7. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations 8. Maintain a clean and safe work area
