POSITION SUMMARY
The forklift operator is responsible for handling green, dried, and finished lumber by servicing the Planer Mill and Moulder to best support Eastern White Pine Manufacturing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SAFETY:
OUR TOP PRIORITY
Understand and follow all safety policies and procedures. Take personal responsibility for their own safety and those working around them. Participate in safety huddles, stretch huddles, and near miss program. Report unsafe conditions and behaviors when recognized. Wear required PPE. No cell phone use while operating forklift.
ENGAGEMENT
Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute ideas for process improvement. Be a reliable team member with good attendance. Other duties may be assigned.
RESPONSIBLITIES
Load and unload dry kilns according to the kiln schedule. Store dry lumber in designated storage buildings. Feed lumber into the Planer Mill and Moulder as needed. Remove finished lumber from production areas as required. Remove sticking racks safely and promptly. Support the Sawmill Front-End Operator when needed. Perform pre-trip inspections prior to shift. Perform routine maintenance and communicate factors that would impact safety and/or equipment run time. Plow snow and sand yard to maintain safe access. Clean and organize lumber rows and maintain a tidy yard. Adhere to all lock-out/tag-out procedures to ensure safety. Maintain a clean and organized forklift free of clutter. Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent focus and attention to detail in fast-paced environments. Strong knowledge of the lumber industry and related operations. Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, customer shipping specifications, etc. Attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, adapting to shift requirements.
DESIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive work culture.
REPETITIVE PHYSICAL DEMANDS
