FORKLIFT OPERATOR
Cement Products Inc. is an American owned and family operated business since 1916. From the foundation to the finishing touch, Cement Products Inc. is the preferred concrete products and ready-mix supplier from mid-Ohio to northern-Ohio.
Job Summary Description:
The forklift operator accurately unloads/loads block products onto customer trucks and trailers, production plant and our stock yard as is necessary through the day. The forklift operator is responsible for the safe and proper handling, receiving, loading and storage of freshly produced block products. They are expected to perform all essential responsibilities and duties in a manner that maintains a safe and healthy working environment for him/herself as well as those they will work around on a daily basis in accordance with all Company policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to: 1. Safely and efficiently operate a 12 forked double forklift, transport, and stack materials to and from various areas of the Company property to where they are needed. 2. Prior to operating the forklift each day, perform and document "Pre-Trip" inspections identifying repairs that must be scheduled, as well as those that are serious and most likely will take the lift immediately out of service. Pre-Trip inspections are required each and every day. 3. It is the forklift operator's responsibility to keep the front-end loader clean both inside and outside. 4. Use a double forklift to load materials for customers as requested onto trucks or trailers, but never into a pickup truck bed due to the high likelihood of vehicle damage/liability. The smaller single forklift is used specifically for pickup trucks to avoid those costly vehicle damage/liability. 5. Must help maintain equipment/areas associated with block production. 6. Properly handle and maintain inventory material in the stockyard. 7. Assist with or perform plant maintenance and service as requested by your immediate manager. 8. Monitor and report mechanical problems associated with yard equipment to your immediate manager and/or fleet maintenance. 9. Assist with and perform other reasonable tasks around the plant, stockyard and facility as requested. Included but not limited to any additional ready-mix/yard/concrete product needs.
Requirements/Skills:
  • Minimum High School Diploma/GED
  • Previous experience with a solid rubber-tire double forklift or other types of heavy machinery/mobile equipment.
  • The forklift operator should be dependable and act in a professional manner with customers and fellow employees.
  • The forklift operator should possess a positive attitude and a level of determination to successfully complete tasks and assignments.
  • The forklift operator should be a self-starter, show initiative, and be motivated to learn products.
  • Knowledge of the equipment and methods used in the production process and related aspects of product storage, handling and distribution of block.
  • Effectively read, write and understand English and have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including Saturdays during the busy season as required.
  • Learn and follow all safety procedures for the forklift operation. Must be able to perform multiple tasks of sustained viewing at the rear of the forklift utilizing mirrors while driving and manipulating controls.
  • Must be able to use various tools and equipment in a safe manner to perform related job functions.
These include, but are not limited to broom, mop, pick, shovel, garden hose, sledgehammer, rubber hammer, chipping hammer, air hammer, and other various hand and power tools as needed.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time often on wet, slick, and/or uneven terrain or surfaces. Additionally, you must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push, pull, climb, stretch, twist and crawl frequently.
  • Must be able of lifting, carrying, and/or toting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to work both inside and outside, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, in both wet and dry conditions, in and around loud moving equipment.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of the forklift multiple times per day (frequently).
  • Must be able to manipulate all forklift controls safely and accurately by pushing, pulling, squeezing, and turning levers, knobs, buttons and wheels.
