Job Description

OVERVIEW
The Tow Motor/Forklift Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient loading of all trucks coming into the assigned department. This position is responsible for the storage of material produced from the mill. Responsible for the loading and unloading of Highway rail cars. Responsible for the upkeep of the forklift that he/she is assigned daily. Responsible for final quality checks on all material going out the door. The forklift operators are also called upon to assist management with numerous tasks including, but not limited to, cutting down material on the saw or shear, assisting on the production floor when needed, general upkeep of the assigned department, and assisting wherever a forklift is needed on the campus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Follow all work instructions Follow all safety instructions Operate machinery safely and efficiently Stack all production according to storage map Accurate completion of work orders with complete and accurate documentation as required Accurate record keeping of shipments Maintain an organized and clean work area Examine product and ensure it meets quality standards Load and unload material onto Highway rail cars Load material onto Scrap shear, SALV Saw, and SILT Table Horses Basic troubleshooting when necessary Willing to work in other departments throughout FI as needed
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Previous work experience with Tow Motors and/or Forklifts is required. Experience moving both palletized and non-palletized loads with a forklift is highly preferred. Current certification in the proficient operation of forklifts is highly preferred. Mechanical knowledge of tow motors and forklifts highly preferred. General math knowledge is required.

Ability to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment Ability to work well both individually and in a team environment Must have a high attention to detail
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED
Forklifts Bobcat Handheld Scanners Pneumatic Banders (Metal)
EXPECTED HOURS
  • Between 40 and 58 per week
TYPICAL SCHEDULE 5 AM
  • 4 PM
  • Mon-Fri 5 AM
  • 2 PM on Saturdays (only as needed, and on rotation)
STARTING PAY
  • Typically starts between $17 and $20/ hour, commensurate with experience .
(OT is paid at 1.5x pay after 40 hours). New employees are eligible for merit raises and more cross training opportunities after passing their 90-day probationary period. The following incentives are also available: Bonus and production incentives Referral bonuses Paid holidays
