Job Title:
Forklift Operator Job Description This role focuses on operating a stand-up forklift in a busy warehouse and manufacturing environment while performing a full range of shipping, receiving, picking, packing, and inventory tasks. The position requires extensive stand-up forklift experience, strong attention to detail, and the physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds on a semi-consistent basis. You will help ensure products move safely and efficiently through the facility, from receipt to storage to shipment. Responsibilities Receive and unload freight manually or using material handling equipment, including stand-up forklifts. Inspect incoming shipments for damage and verify the quantity and quality of orders against documentation. Confirm items received and deliver products to appropriate warehouse locations in a timely manner. Ensure shipments are properly packaged, labeled with accurate shipping information, and staged for pickup or delivery. Pick orders accurately and verify that picked items match the pick list before preparing them for shipment. Palletize products in a way that supports safe customer receipt and efficient truck loading to help reduce transportation costs. Transfer finished goods from racks, pallets, and storage areas to pallets designated for shipment. Replenish inventory by moving produced product to appropriate warehouse locations and updating locations as needed. Participate in storage and inventory assessment activities, including cycle counts and physical inventories. Assist in maintaining accurate inventory records and respond promptly to shipping requests from various departments. Operate a stand-up forklift safely and efficiently to move, load, and unload materials. Perform receiving and storage functions for stock and materials, ensuring proper placement and organization. Load trucks safely and accurately according to shipping requirements. Use a wireless scanner to process orders and maintain accurate tracking of inventory and shipments. Organize and maintain the warehouse as instructed, including housekeeping and keeping work areas clean and orderly. Place spools of wire into packaging, cradles, and on pallets as required for packing operations. Visually inspect finished products, including wire and spools, to ensure they meet quality standards. Cut wire to specified footage, re-spool wire, and prepare it for shipment, including working with fine wire when needed. Set up cut line machines as required, pick product, and string up machines for production runs. Control cut line operations by monitoring counters and counter checks, adjusting machine settings, and verifying correct wire sizes and colors for each cut. Ensure all labels are printed clearly and legibly and that sequential footage is checked as necessary. Ensure a proper lay of product on the reel, then spool, wrap, and label product according to specifications. Work independently with little to no supervision while meeting safety, quality, and productivity expectations. Essential Skills Warehouse experience with prior exposure to shipping, receiving, picking, packing, and material handling. Forklift certification with at least 2-3 years of stand-up forklift experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment. Proven ability to operate a stand-up forklift safely and efficiently. Previous experience in receiving functions, including verifying and documenting incoming shipments. Ability to stand for long periods throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a semi-consistent basis. Valid driver's license. Experience with inventory processes, including cycle counts and physical inventories. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office for simple documentation or communication tasks. Ability to use a wireless scanner to process orders and track inventory. Strong attention to detail to verify quantities, labels, wire sizes, colors, and sequential footage. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following established procedures. Strong organizational skills to maintain an orderly warehouse and work area. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in a manufacturing environment handling finished goods and raw materials. Background in palletizing, staging, and loading trucks to optimize space and transportation efficiency. Experience with packing operations, including placing spools of wire into packaging, cradles, and pallets. Familiarity with quality inspection of finished products, especially wire and related components. Experience cutting wire to specified footage, re-spooling, and preparing wire for shipment, including fine wire. Exposure to cut line operations, including machine setup, product string-up, and monitoring machine settings. Ability to read and follow pick lists, work orders, and labeling requirements accurately. Comfort working with tall warehouse racking systems and large volumes of inventory. Strong communication skills to coordinate with shipping, receiving, and production teams. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in an industrial manufacturing and warehouse setting that produces copper wire and coils it using various types of machinery. You will work in a large warehouse with tall shelving, where products are picked, stored, and staged for shipment. The environment involves regular use of stand-up forklifts, material handling equipment, wireless scanners, and cut line machines. The position typically follows an 8-hour shift schedule, with options that may include a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a swing shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, depending on operational needs. The work is physically active, requiring extended periods of standing, frequent lifting, and consistent movement throughout the warehouse while adhering to all safety guidelines and standard industrial attire appropriate for a production and warehouse facility. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ogden, UT. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
