Job Description
The Salvation Army of Broward County seeks an accomplished, relationship-driven fundraising leader to serve as Director of Development during a pivotal moment in the organization's history. As The Salvation Army celebrates its Centennial Year in Broward County, the organization has launched an ambitious and already successful Centennial Campaign designed to expand its impact for generations to come. Working in partnership with the Area Commander (CEO), Advisory Board, donors, and community leaders, the Director of Development will build upon this momentum and help guide the next chapter of philanthropic growth and community engagement. This executive leadership position oversees all fundraising, donor engagement, marketing, volunteer engagement, community relations, and development operations for one of South Florida's most respected nonprofit organizations. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy supporting annual operations, long-term growth initiatives, and the ongoing success of the Centennial Campaign. Build upon an established foundation of donor relationships, campaign momentum, and community partnerships while identifying new opportunities for philanthropic investment. Coordinate multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure campaign initiatives, fundraising projects, donor communications, and organizational priorities are executed effectively and on schedule. Serve as a strategic partner to the Area Commander and Advisory Board in fundraising, campaign advancement, board engagement, and community outreach. Collaborate closely with designated Salvation Army regional major gifts and planned giving professionals to maximize philanthropic opportunities and coordinate local donor strategies. Oversee and strengthen all development operations, including donor stewardship, direct response fundraising, volunteer engagement, community relations, marketing, grants, and special events. Provide leadership and oversight for the organization's signature fundraising events, including the highly successful Red Shield Regatta and other key community engagement initiatives. Manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and contractors supporting grant writing, campaign strategy, marketing, communications, video production, direct mail, and special events. Manage and mentor development staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and excellence. Oversee donor database management, fundraising analytics, vendor relationships, reporting, acknowledgments, and campaign tracking. Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while ensuring deadlines, budgets, donor commitments, and organizational objectives are achieved.artner with the area commander and board members on all major fundraising initiatives.
Qualifications include:
Minimum five years of progressively successful nonprofit fundraising and development experience. Demonstrated success securing major gifts, foundation grants, corporate sponsorships, planned gifts, and annual fundraising support. Exceptional relationship-management skills with donors, volunteers, board members, vendors, community leaders, and staff. Strong project-management abilities, including the capacity to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail, responsiveness, and follow-through. Proven resilience, adaptability, sound judgment, and professionalism in a fast-paced environment. Experience working with a nonprofit organization with multiple levels of leadership, governance, compliance, and operational oversight is highly desirable. Familiarity with donor databases, fundraising technology, direct response fundraising, campaign management, and development analytics. Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications or related field required; CFRE preferred. A valid State driver's license is required. The successful candidate will be a resilient, highly organized development professional with exceptional relationship-management and project-management skills.
