The Development Director position is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated, energetic individual who is eager to help grow the Scouting program. The position will give leadership and direction to fundraising campaigns, including individual and corporate gifts, annual campaigns, special events, foundations, and product sales. The position will develop strategies and implement tactics to increase volunteer engagement and philanthropic support. Scouting America Heart of New England Council serves over 4,400 youth members and 1900 adult volunteers in Worcester and Middlesex counties in Central Massachusetts. Strategic Leadership Develop and execute a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with Heart of New England Council's mission and strategic priorities. Serve as a trusted advisor to the Scout Executive/CEO and Executive Board on philanthropy, donor strategy, and revenue sustainability. Translate mission impact into compelling cases for support. Fundraising & Revenue Growth Lead all philanthropic revenue streams, including: Major and principal gifts Annual giving and Friends of Scouting Corporate partnerships and sponsorships Foundation and grant fundraising Special events and campaigns Planned and legacy giving Personally manage a portfolio of top donors and prospects, securing major and transformational gifts. Partners with board members and key volunteers in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Leads capital campaign and other capital fundraising efforts to support facility improvement projects. Board & Volunteer Engagement Support the Executive Board, Fund Development Committee, and campaign leadership in achieving fundraising goals. Equip and inspire volunteer leaders to serve as effective ambassadors and fundraisers. Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Donor Experience & Stewardship Ensure best-in-class donor stewardship, recognition, and engagement. Oversee donor communications, impact reporting, and relationship management. Champion data-informed fundraising strategies using CRM systems and analytics. Team Leadership & Operations Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing development/marketing team. Establish scalable systems, processes, and performance metrics. Ensure compliance with all ethical, legal, and regulatory fundraising standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate with program, membership, finance, and operations teams to align fundraising with program impact and storytelling. Bachelor's degree Strong interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities. Experience leading event planning, fundraising, marketing, or sales. Proven success in securing major and principal gifts and leading diversified fundraising portfolios. Highly organized, disciplined, and detail-oriented approach. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong follow-through and the ability to meet ambitious deadlines. Collaborative leadership style with a passion for teamwork. Ability to travel locally and regionally, with some evening and weekend availability. Experience partnering effectively with CEOs, boards, and senior volunteers. Strong executive presence, strategic thinking, and relationship-building skills. Preferred 5-10 years of nonprofit development leadership experience. Experience in youth-serving or mission-driven organizations. Capital or comprehensive campaign leadership experience. Knowledge of the Worcester and Central Massachusetts philanthropic landscape.
