Job Description

Development & Communications Director Job Summary The Development & Communications Director (Director) at The Janet S. Munt Family Room drives our community-centric fundraising and public-facing communication efforts. Working closely with and reporting to the Executive Director, this leader collaborates with the leadership team, staff, and Board members to design and execute annual development and communications plans that maintain organizational stability and align with our strategic plan. The Director manages end-to-end donor stewardship, foundation relationships, grants, fundraising events, and campaigns while coordinating with internal teams. Major Job Responsibilities Donor Research & Management (50%) Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan; manage the full donor cycle — identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Manage the Little Green Light CRM, keeping donor and grant records accurate, secure, and compliant with AFP ethical standards Organize development meetings for the Executive Director with funders, stakeholders, Legislators, and Board members Serve as lead staff on the Board's Fund Development Committee Foundation Support & Management (30%) Steward foundation relationships year-round Generate timely, high-quality grant proposals (family foundations, government, andnon-government) Coordinate staff to gather outcome data and ensure accurate, on-time grant reporting Special Projects & Events (part of the 20%) Manage fundraising and "friend-raising" events start to finish — planning, vendors (printers, caterers, designers, photographers), volunteers, and follow-up Communications (part of the 20%) Develop and implement an annual communications plan aligned with the fundraising plan Serve as lead staff on the Board's Communications & Marketing Committee Manage communications with businesses, government, foundations, Legislators, and community partners Maintain a media library; write the periodic newsletter with program staff; oversee website and social media Ethics & Relationships Uphold AFP Code of Ethical Standards, equitable fundraising practices, and The Family Room's Gift Acceptance Guidelines and Mission/Vision/Core Values Balance fundraising and public communications with the vulnerability of the families served Job Requirements & Skills 3+ years in nonprofit development/fundraising (Burlington-area experience preferred) and 3+ years in communications/marketing or related field Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills across grant writing, internal relationships, and public representation Proficiency in donor database software; working knowledge of Facebook/Instagram; Canva, Mailchimp, SquareSpace, and GiveButter experience preferred Strong project and time management across competing deadlines Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and build genuine relationships across stakeholders Flexibility for occasional early-morning/weekend events and travel Working Conditions & Compensation This is a full-time, exempt position, with work primarily performed in an office environment in person and with some flexibility in scheduling and remote work. The salary range for this position is $65,000-$75,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
