THE POSITION
The Development Director at CASA of Lane County is a key member of the Leadership Team, responsible for fundraising, marketing, events, and recruitment efforts that sustain and grow the organization's mission-driven work. This role provides strategic leadership for all philanthropic, donor engagement, and community visibility efforts. The Development Director oversees annual giving, major gifts, corporate partnerships, planned giving, grants, donor communications, event fundraising, and volunteer engagement activities that support development and outreach. The ideal candidate is relational, organized, and forward-thinking—able to balance strategy with execution while building systems that support long-term sustainability. REQUIREMENTS
Commitment to CASA of Lane County's mission, vision, and organizational values Demonstrated experience leading nonprofit teams in fundraising, development, or advancement functions Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to think strategically while supporting effective implementation Experience supervising or coordinating staff and volunteers Experience utilizing and improving donor databases, reporting, and data-informed decision-making Demonstrated leadership of donor communications, fundraising appeals, and stewardship strategies Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience Experience and skill with database software, Word, Excel, and other relevant applications Ability to pass a detailed background check including criminal and child welfare history Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Lane County
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Development Strategy & Leadership Design and lead CASA's comprehensive fundraising and engagement strategy in alignment with organizational priorities and capacity Establish clear annual goals, timelines, and metrics across revenue and engagement streams Provide strategic oversight for marketing and outreach efforts that support fundraising, community visibility, and volunteer recruitment. Ensure fundraising, outreach, and engagement efforts are coordinated, realistic, and sustainable Monitor and report progress, and recommend adaptations to strategies and tactics in collaboration with the Executive Director Ensure volunteer recruitment and engagement related to fundraising, events, and outreach are intentional, supported, and aligned with development and marketing goals
Core Fundraising & Engagement Functions:
The Development Director provides leadership and oversight for CASA's core development and engagement activities, including: Annual giving and appeal campaigns Individual donor cultivation, stewardship, and retention Corporate and community partnerships and sponsorships, including oversight and stewardship of programs that engage our business and faith partners in support of CASA's mission. (Currently Business Advocacy Partners, Faith Advocacy Partners) Planned giving initiatives that support long-term sustainability Strategic oversight of grant writing, fundraising communications, and event fundraising efforts led by dedicated staff Oversight of volunteer recruitment and engagement efforts that support events, fundraising activities, and community visibility This role collaborates closely with program leadership to ensure consistent messaging, community engagement, and strategies to attract and maintain high-quality volunteers The Development Director maintains a portfolio of individual and corporate donors Donor Relations & Major Gifts Lead strategy for individual giving and major donor engagement Partner with the Executive Director on cultivation and stewardship of major donors and key partners while maintaining a portfolio of individual and corporate donors. Guide and support consistent donor stewardship practices across the development team, executive director, and board of directors Strengthen donor retention through relationship-centered engagement Board & Committee Partnerships Support and collaborate with the Development Committee to advance fundraising and engagement goals Provide tools, structure, and coaching to help board members participate meaningfully in development and outreach efforts Prepare development-related reports and updates for the Board of Directors Support board engagement as ambassadors and advocates for CASA's mission Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Coordination Supervise and support the Events Coordinator, Grants & Communications Coordinator, and Volunteer Coordinators Provide leadership and coordination for volunteer recruitment and engagement strategies that support fundraising efforts, event success, and organizational visibility Clarify roles, priorities, and timelines to support staff success while maintaining clear boundaries between development-related volunteer engagement and CASA's core advocacy volunteer program Foster a collaborative, organized, and mission-aligned development and engagement team Coordinate with program leadership to ensure outreach, messaging, and volunteer engagement efforts are consistent and mutually reinforcing overall mission Communications & Community Engagement Provide strategic direction for fundraising-related messaging, appeals, and donor communications Ensure development and outreach communications reflect CASA's mission, values, and voice Represent CASA at donor meetings, community events, and outreach opportunities, often speaking extemporaneously or planned in advance with a variety of audiences - both small and large Systems, Data & Operations Ensure accurate donor, grant, and engagement tracking using CASA's database systems Strengthen development and engagement systems, processes, and documentation Track outcomes and provide regular progress reports to leadership Ensure compliance with donor agreements and grant requirements
