Job Description
Position Summary The Director of Development serves as the lead fundraising and relationship-building professional for Partners for World Health, responsible for growing philanthropic support through individual, corporate, and foundation donors. Working closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, and community partners, the Director develops and manages donor relationships, leads major and planned giving efforts, supports fundraising strategy, and helps advance the organization's visibility and impact. The position requires strong communication, strategic thinking, and active, in-person engagement with donors, board members, and stakeholders to secure funding opportunities, enhance community partnerships and strengthen PWH's mission. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fundraising and Donor Development
- Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors, corporate supporters, and foundation funders
- Develop and implement donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention strategies
- Lead major gift efforts, grant development, and initiatives that expand annual, capital, and planned giving programs
- Maintain accurate donor engagement records and leverage data to drive fundraising success Community Engagement and Representation
- Serve as a visible ambassador for PWH in the community
- Build and maintain relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, community leaders, and other stakeholders
- Represent the organization at events, speaking engagements, board meetings, and networking opportunities to increase awareness and support Corporate and Foundation Partnerships
- Cultivate and steward corporate and foundation relationships in collaboration with the CEO
- Secure sponsorships, grants, and other partnership opportunities
- Support fundraising events and engagement activities that strengthen donor and community support Marketing and Communications
- Lead the development and execution of marketing and communications strategies that enhance PWH's brand and visibility
- Oversee digital content, social media, website development, public relations, newsletters, donor communications, and promotional materials
- Measure and evaluate marketing effectiveness to ensure outreach efforts support organizational goals Planned Giving and Special Initiatives
- Develop and grow PWH's planned giving program
- Cultivate long-term donor relationships and ensure appropriate stewardship of planned giving commitments
- Lead special fundraising projects and strategic initiatives that create new opportunities for mission impact Leadership and Administrative Support
- Partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, Development and Communications team, and volunteers to achieve fundraising and engagement goals
- Provide strategic oversight for fundraising activities and support the planning and execution of special events
- Ensure all fundraising activities are documented, compliant, and aligned with organizational priorities Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a business, marketing, fundraising, or communications related discipline, or equivalent relevant experienceExperience:
5+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, marketing, or advancement- Capacity to envision and execute a long-term development and communications plan with exceptional ability to think strategically about fundraising and marketing initiatives
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, persuasive writing, and media relations experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing marketing campaigns, managing media relations, managing organizational brand, and leveraging digital and traditional marketing channels to build organizational visibility and reputation
- Ability to create, curate, and manage engaging content across multiple social media channels to build organizational brand and donor engagement
- Proven track record of strategic planning and achieving ambitious fundraising and marketing/awareness goals
- Curiosity about and appreciation for the local community, with knowledge of Maine's philanthropic landscape and business community. A positive energy and understanding of the importance of building authentic community relationships.
- Exceptional leadership, managerial, and team-building skills with ability to inspire and develop team members
- Experience with budget management and financial reporting Working Conditions
- Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation. This position requires regular in-person engagement with donors, community partners, and stakeholders throughout Maine and the region, including attending events, conducting donor visits, and representing PWH in the community on a regular basis.
- The position may also require travel and work outside the traditional business day (M-F, 8:30am to 5pm EST), with the expectation that the employee may work from home up to two days per week.
