Job Description

Position Summary The Job Development Specialist works to help job seekers who are unemployed or underemployed identify career preferences and obtain successful community-integrated employment. The Job Development Specialist will use person-centered and community employment planning to assist people in identifying and pursuing their employment interests. The ideal candidate must be committed to The Arc's mission of full community life and employment as the first option for all people, regardless of ability. The candidate should be professional, outgoing, open-minded, flexible, and persistent. Position Responsibilities Essential Functions Use person-centered and community employment planning to assist people to identify their career and employment interests. Provide Discovery & Job Development support. Collaborate and cultivate relationships with area businesses, community vendors, resource partners, families, and other service agencies and departments. Research and locate opportunities and resources that support employment goals. Utilize multiple resources/connections to develop job leads, including in-store/business postings, job search websites, cold calling, in-person and web networking, and knowledge in the community. Maintain a strong understanding of employee rights in the workplace, specifically under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Be at least 18 years old. Have a GED or high school diploma. Technical knowledge to operate a computer and smartphone to perform essential job functions. Obtain or possess a DDA-Approved certification in employment to provide discovery services. Experience assisting people to seek and/or obtain employment. Two years experience working with people with developmental disabilities. Valid Maryland driver's license and daily access to an insured vehicle to travel. Excellent time management and customer service skills. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Ability to complete all COMAR and agency-required training.
