Karen Robinson Executive Director Job Summary The Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) uses lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges to provide support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals navigating recovery. This role fosters a person-centered approach by building relationships, promoting self-advocacy, and connecting individuals to community resources. The CPSS works as part of a multidisciplinary team to assist clients in achieving their recovery goals. Key Responsibilities Peer Support & Mentorship Provide one-on-one and group peer support using recovery-oriented principles. Share lived experiences to inspire hope and model recovery strategies. Assist individuals in developing coping skills, self-advocacy, and goal setting. Advocacy & Resource Navigation Support individuals in accessing healthcare, housing, employment, and social services. Advocate for client rights and reduce stigma surrounding mental health and substance use. Educate clients about available community resources and assist with referrals. Collaboration & Documentation Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, attending meetings and case discussions. Maintain accurate documentation of interactions and support provided. Adhere to confidentiality policies and ethical peer support standards. Training & Professional Development Participate in ongoing training and supervision. Stay informed about best practices in peer support and recovery models. Complete requires continuing education to maintain certification.

Qualifications Required:

High school diploma or GED. Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in Michigan. Lived experience with mental health or substance use recovery (minimum one year of sustained recovery). Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to establish trust and maintain professional boundaries. Basic computer and documentation skills.

Preferred:

Experience in peer support, behavioral health, or case management. Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction strategies. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Work may be conducted in offices, community settings, or virtually. Some travel may be required to meet with clients or attend trainings.
