The Youth Development Specialist (YDS) is a full-time, 40-hour a week (or part-time, 20-hour a week), non-exempt, and hourly position who works directly with the residents assigned to a particular division to ensure that the daily programs and routines are carried out. This role is responsible for providing a safe, therapeutic residential experience for all youth during each assigned shift by consistently implementing strategies. Full-time employees can work between eight (8) to 12 hour shifts a week. The primary hours are 2:00pm through 10:30, Monday through Friday.THIS IS WHAT YOU'LL DO
Active supervision of youth to maintain the safety and well-being of all youth, including to assist to provide a positive, clean, safe, and therapeutic environment. Act as a member of the team to coordinate youth daily tasks. Work closely with all team members to formulate and see that treatment plans are supported, and positive youth development experiences are incorporated in all activities. Develop a working knowledge of each resident and works to support his progress in treatment. Review information and maintain knowledge regarding issues and important developments of each youth, treatments plans, safety plans, and Individual Crisis Support Plans (ICSPs) within the division. Provide support for youth to whom the YDS is assigned as the primary and present on youth progress. Maintain up to date knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support and uses identified strategies to reinforce positive behaviors which reflect safety, responsibility, and respect. Review the communication log, e-mails, and memos each shift. Maintain a level of professionalism necessary to demonstrate appropriate support of youth, including but not limited to appropriate communication, appropriate appearance and dress, acting as a role model to youth, etc. Establish positive working relationships with members of the division team, as well as staff in other departments, who share the responsibility of providing treatment and educational services to residents. Demonstrate an awareness of trauma informed care and provide the support and guidance necessary for each resident to feel safe and welcome. Aware of the daily census and maintains vigilance regarding any youth's whereabouts on campus. Maintains an awareness of each youth's frame of mind and ability to appropriately engage in program activities. Participate in all scheduled meetings, training sessions and skill development opportunities. Demonstrate competency with implementation of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) strategies, including interventions as identified in ICSP for each youth. Apply, as necessary, skills learned in training including TCI, CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving, Documentation, Boundaries, et al. Encourage each resident to participate in routines and activities, as appropriate. Complete all required documentation accurately and in a professional manner, including timesheets, daily log, communication log, incident reports, phone logs, and any other reports and forms as expected. Communicate information related to youth activities, division happenings, high risk behaviors, and other related information in a timely and professional manner both verbally and via documentation to ensure that supervisors, managers, and colleagues are aware of any pressing issues which impact the safety and well-being of any youth. Follow all guidelines and procedures related to position. Ensure appropriate professional use and maintenance of all security devices, monitors, phones, and other job-related equipment. Perform special assignments and other duties as needed in any division or for specific youth.THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED
