Tulsa, OK Job Details Full-time $125,000 a year 1 day ago Qualifications Revenue growth Team leadership Bachelor's degree Non-profit experience Senior leadership Full Job Description The Chief Development Officer (CDO) serves as the executive leader responsible for designing, leading, and executing a comprehensive strategy to maintain and grow relationships with both new and existing MHAOK donors to significantly expand and diversify revenue for Mental Health Association Oklahoma (MHAOK). While leading and developing a high-performing development team, this role prioritizes identifying and securing new funding sources, including institutional partnerships, corporate investments, government funding, philanthropic innovation, and nontraditional revenue streams. The CDO partners closely with the CEO, executive leadership, and Board of Directors to position MHAOK for long-term financial sustainability, transformational growth, and increased community impact.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Fundraising Leadership Develop and execute a bold, multi-year fundraising strategy focused on revenue growth, diversification, and sustainability. Identify, evaluate, and secure new funding streams, including corporate partnerships, national foundations, public funding opportunities, and emerging philanthropic channels. Lead the design and execution of transformational fundraising initiatives, including capital campaigns, endowment growth strategies, and investment-aligned giving opportunities. Establish data-driven fundraising targets and performance metrics, ensuring accountability and measurable growth year over year. New Revenue Generation & Innovation Drive innovation in fundraising by launching new donor acquisition models, digital fundraising platforms, and strategic partnerships. Cultivate high-impact relationships with major donors, institutional funders, corporate leaders, and public-sector stakeholders. Expand access to grant funding by proactively identifying grant opportunities and increasing proposal competitiveness. Partner with executive leaders to build and execute strategies to access nontraditional funding sources, including but not limited to sponsorships, cause-marketing partnerships, venture philanthropy, and social impact investments. Major Gifts, Campaigns, and Donor Strategy Lead a comprehensive major gifts program, including prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-capacity donors. Oversee planned giving and legacy programs, growing long-term financial commitments and endowment support. Design and execute high-performing capital campaigns and special initiatives, ensuring strong donor engagement and goal attainment. Strengthen donor retention and lifetime value through personalized engagement strategies and impact-focused communication. Partnerships & External Relations Serve as a key external ambassador to expand MHAOK's visibility and funding opportunities through strategic partnerships and community engagement. Establish, maintain, and grow relationships with corporate, foundation, and governmental partners to elevate investment in mental health and housing services through first class stewardship practices. Support the development of marketing and communication strategies and initiatives to elevate the organization's case for support and funding narratives. Board & Executive Engagement Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to activate networks, unlock new funding opportunities, and strengthen philanthropic leadership. Support board development efforts, focusing on recruiting members with strong giving capacity and strategic connections. Provide regular, data-driven reporting on fundraising performance, pipeline development, and emerging opportunities. Operational Excellence Oversee all development operations, including donor systems, analytics, forecasting, and reporting infrastructure. Lead and develop a high-performing development team focused on results, innovation, and donor-centered practices. Continuously analyze fundraising performance and market trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit development, with a track record of significant revenue growth and new funding acquisition. Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, institutional funding, and diversified revenue streams. Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate vision into measurable results. Proven ability to build high-level relationships with donors, executives, and community leaders. Must have 3-5 years' experience within the Tulsa or Oklahoma City market. Experience leading large-scale fundraising campaigns and complex funding initiatives. Must have 3-5 years' experience within the Tulsa or Oklahoma City market. Expertise in grant development, corporate partnerships, and emerging fundraising models. Exceptional ability to influence, negotiate, communicate, and present to a diverse audience. Ability to lead through change and drive innovation in fundraising strategy.
WORK CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a highly visible, external-facing leadership position requiring visibility both in office and in the community across Oklahoma. Office work is performed in climate-controlled office setting with a moderate noise level that includes sounds of normal office equipment. No environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties. Work requires a flexible work schedule due to internal and external meetings. Overtime may be necessary on occasion and may include weekends based on events or business need. Primarily in-state travel will be required; must have reliable transportation. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing. Physical ability to move ten pounds occasionally. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and staff behavior. Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for extended periods of time (60 minutes or more). Ability to safely and effectively use office equipment.
