POSITION PURPOSE
Crossroads Community Services seeks an experienced Contract Grant Writer to strengthen and expand our institutional funding portfolio. This role is responsible for researching, writing, and submitting philanthropic and government grant opportunities at local, county, state and federal levels, in support of our mission to build nutrition-stable communities across Southern Dallas County. Candidates must demonstrate working knowledge of the DFW philanthropic ecosystem, government funding pathways, and research-based grant strategy, along with a willingness to learn and accurately represent Crossroads' food equity model. Occasional on-site presence for meetings, collaboration, or funder engagement is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Identify and research philanthropic and government funding opportunities aligned with Crossroads' programs and strategic priorities Write compelling grant proposals, LOIs, and renewal applications Collaborate with program and finance teams to develop budgets and narratives Maintain a grant calendar or pipeline and manage submission deadlines Ensure compliance with funder requirements and submission portals Support post-award reporting, tracking and funder stewardship using Crossroads' CRM Contribute to long-term institutional funding strategy and sustainability planning
QUALIFICATIONS
3-5+ years of successful grant writing experience Demonstrated knowledge of DFW, county, state and federal landscapes Proven track record of securing foundation, corporate and government grants Strong research, writing, and project management skills Experience with human services, food security, public health, or poverty-related funding
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is primarily remote, with work performed in a home office or similar professional environment. On-site presence one day per week (at minimum) at Crossroads facilities is required for meetings, collaboration, site visits or funder engagement. Crossroads facilities are housed within a warehouse environment that includes food storage and distribution; on-site work may involve exposure to variable temperatures, noise, and potential pest sightings typical of warehouse operations.
MENTAL DEMANDS
This position requires the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and complex compliance requirements. The Contract Grant Writer must be able to adapt effectively to workplace stressors such as competing grant deadlines, funder requirements, data and reporting constraints, and evolving organizational priorities, including the availability of key staff members. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to synthesize programmatic, financial, and research data into clear and compelling narratives. Sound judgment and decision-making are essential, as work products may have a significant impact on organizational funding, compliance and strategic outcomes.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role primarily involves sedentary work, including prolonged periods of sitting, reading, writing, and working at a computer. The contractor must be able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally, review and interpret data, and participate in virtual and in-person meetings as needed. Occasional light physical activity may be required during on-site visits (e.g., walking through facilities, standing for meetings, etc.). This position does not require regular lifting, operating machinery, or warehouse equipment.

Pay:
