Flexible. We welcome applications from candidates based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN or Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala. This position follows a hybrid work model, with a combination of remote and in-person work. Regular in-person participation is expected based on organizational needs and the candidate's location.
Compensation:
Compensation is determined based on the candidate's country of employment, qualifications, and relevant experience. For U.S.
-based candidates:
$35-$38 per hour.
For Guatemala-based candidates:
Compensation will be determined according to Common Hope's local salary structure and employment practices.
Work Authorization:
Candidates must have current authorization to work in their country of employment. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Hope, Empathy, Responsibility, Proactivity, Curiosity, Teamwork Position objective The Grant Writer supports Common Hope's fundraising efforts by identifying, developing, and submitting high-quality grant proposals and reports. Working collaboratively with the Head of Individual Giving and Grants, the Development team, and cross-departmental teams, this role focuses on executing institutional fundraising efforts, ensuring timely submissions, and maintaining strong alignment between programmatic priorities, donor requirements, and organizational strategy. This position requires strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural, mission-driven environment, helping connect donors with the transformative impact of Common Hope's work. Key Responsibilities Grant Research & Prospect Identification Research and identify potential funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and institutional donors. Maintain a pipeline of prospective funders aligned with organizational priorities. Track deadlines, requirements, and funding cycles. Proposal Development & Submission Execute grant proposals aligned with strategy defined by the Head of Individual Giving and Grants. Prepare and submit compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and supporting documentation. Collaborate with program and finance teams to gather required information (budgets, impact data, narratives). Ensure proposals are aligned with donor priorities, programmatic needs, and organizational strategy. Contribute to continuous improvement of proposal quality through feedback, learning, and analysis of funding outcomes. Grant Management & Reporting Prepare and submit timely, accurate grant reports in compliance with donor requirements. Track grant deliverables, reporting deadlines, and compliance requirements. Ensure consistency between proposals, reports, and program outcomes. Serve as the primary owner of grant calendars, proposal schedules, reporting deadlines, and compliance tracking, in coordination with the Head of Individual Giving and Grants. Content Development & Institutional Messaging Support the development of standardized language, impact narratives, and proposal templates that authentically reflect our communities in Guatemala. Maintain a library of grant materials, including program descriptions and organizational data. Ensure consistency in messaging across grant submissions, with cultural sensitivity and accuracy. Data & Documentation Management Maintain organized records of submitted proposals, reports, and donor communications. Support tracking of grant performance and funding outcomes. Ensure documentation is audit-ready and aligned with organizational standards. Cross-Departmental Collaboration § Owns the foundation stewardship activities and donor communications plan, in collaboration with the Head of Individual Giving & Grants. Work closely with Development, Finance, and Program teams to ensure alignment of data and messaging. Coordinate with the Donor Database Administrator to ensure proper tracking of grants and reporting data. Foster a collaborative culture that strengthens alignment between fundraising, programs, and communications. Adhere to organizational policies, donor confidentiality standards, and ethical fundraising practices. Qualifications and Experience Education Bachelor's degree in communications, nonprofit management, international development, business, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered. Professional Experience 2-4 years of experience in grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit development, or related fields (e.g., journalism, marketing, or communications). Proven experience writing successful grant proposals preferred. Experience working with institutional donors (foundations, corporations). Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills — able to convey complex programmatic information in a clear, compelling way. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities effectively in a part-time capacity. Strong research skills, including prospect identification and funding opportunity analysis. Technical Skills Strong grant writing and proposal development skills. Familiarity with grant research tools and funding databases. Experience with CRM systems (Raiser's Edge or similar preferred). Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to synthesize data into clear, compelling narratives. Understanding of budgeting concepts and financial documentation for proposals. Additional Qualities Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy. Ability to work independently and manage workload in a part-time capacity. Collaborative and team-oriented — comfortable working across departments and time zones. Comfortable representing Common Hope and engaging stakeholders in conversations about our programs. Deep commitment to the mission and values of Common Hope. Occasional international travel may be required, depending on organizational needs. Language, Cultural and Mission Alignment Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred — you will be working with Spanish-language program data, collaborating with bilingual colleagues, and representing communities whose first language is Spanish. Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity, particularly in the context of Latin American or Guatemalan communities. Experience living, working, or volunteering in international, cross-cultural, or community development settings is a strong asset. A genuine passion for Guatemala.
