Full Job Description Job Summary:
The General Manager (GM) will oversee all aspects of the fencing installation business, ensuring efficient operations, customer satisfaction, and profitability. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day operations, leading a team of employees and contractors, driving business growth, performing/overseeing estimating and sales functions, scheduling installation crews, working with admin/accounting team to ensure invoicing and pay applications are handled accurately, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. 1. Operations Management Oversee daily operations of the fencing installation business, ensuring jobs are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standard of quality. Manage scheduling and coordination of projects to ensure effective use of resources and meet client timelines. Manage procurement of fencing materials, leveraging experience to optimize efficiency and reduce waste. Continuously evaluate operational processes to improve workflow, reduce errors, and ensure superior service quality. 2. Team Leadership and Management Supervise and mentor a team of installers and estimating/sales staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations that reinforce core values. Foster a positive work culture, emphasizing teamwork, accountability, safety, and excellence. Oversee recruitment/hiring of new employees or subcontractors, following company process & procedures Resolve conflicts with integrity and fairness, ensuring adherence to company policies and promoting a respectful workplace. 3. Customer Relations & Business Development Ensure exceptional customer service by addressing concerns honestly, providing timely updates, and exceeding expectations. Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with homeowners, builders, developers, and other key clients. Identify and pursue new business opportunities, leveraging industry experience to expand the customer base. Represent the company professionally at networking events, trade shows, and client meetings, embodying integrity and excellence. 4. Estimating and Sales Oversight Develop/refine and implement processes for project scoping, takeoffs, and quote generation that reflect industry best practices and company standards. Supervise estimating/sales staff to ensure timely and accurate project estimates and bids. Review estimates for accuracy, profitability, and alignment with client expectations before submission. Provide mentorship and leadership to sales staff, using industry experience to guide pricing strategies and achieve sales goals. 5. Scheduling Installation Crews Stay in consistent communication to understand customer scheduling needs. Maintain the install schedule and oversee installation crew scheduling to ensure projects are staffed appropriately. Coordinate the availability of equipment, materials, and crew schedules to meet deadlines. Ensure crews are trained, prepared, and equipped to perform work safely and at the highest quality standards. Communicate proactively with crew leaders to resolve scheduling conflicts or project delays, keeping clients informed. Evaluate field performance regularly, reinforcing excellence and providing coaching where needed. 6. Quality Control, Compliance and Safety Ensure all fencing installations meet or exceed company and industry quality standards. Ensure all work complies with local regulations, zoning laws, and permits. Implement and enforce safety protocols to protect employees, subcontractors, and clients, complying with OSHA and local regulations. Conduct site inspections and proactively resolve issues to maintain a safe and efficient work environment. Stay informed of industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes to keep the business competitive and compliant. 7. Invoicing and Pay Applications Oversee and work with admin team on invoicing to ensure timely, accurate billing for all projects. Work with accounting team to prepare and submit pay applications, including supporting documentation, ensuring clients and company are aligned. Assist with addressing any invoicing or payment concerns that may arise. 8. Reporting Prepare and submit performance reports to senior leadership as requested.
Required Skills and Qualifications Experience:
Minimum 5 years in a managerial role within construction or related industries.
Leadership:
Strong ability to motivate and manage diverse teams, including sales and estimating staff.
Estimating & Sales Expertise:
Skilled in managing estimating and sales with a focus on margin management and competitive pricing.
Project Management:
Able to manage multiple projects, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating crews effectively.
Communication:
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Problem Solving:
Strong decision-making skills in dynamic environments.
Customer Focus:
Ability to build relationships and ensure client satisfaction.
Safety & Compliance:
Knowledge of safety standards and regulations.
Invoicing & Billing Knowledge:
Familiarity with invoices, pay applications, and accounts receivable processes. Physical Requirements Travel to job sites as needed. Occasionally lift materials/tools up to 100 lbs. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
