Advent Lutheran Church in Melbourne, Florida, is looking for a full-time Business Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to serve behind the scenes on a healthy, collaborative team, helping to shape the operational, financial, and administrative systems of a growing church. The Business Manager is a key leadership position responsible for governance and legal compliance, financial management, human resources, technology oversight, and day-to-day operational support. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, systems-minded, and collaborative, and who enjoys creating structure so that ministry can flourish. Key Responsibilities Oversee governance and legal compliance, including nonprofit, employment, and financial requirements, and maintain strong internal standards and documentation. Coordinate background checks, training, and compliance for staff and volunteers, especially those serving with children and youth. Maintain financial records, accounts payable processes, payroll functions, reconciliations, and budget reporting in collaboration with the Treasurer and Bookkeeper. Support Church Management Systems, records retention, audit readiness, insurance administration, and risk management protocols. Partner with pastoral staff, Church Council, and ministry leaders to improve workflows, communication, and operational systems. Lead administrative HR processes, including onboarding, evaluations, PTO tracking, and benefits coordination. Oversee key aspects of the church's technology environment, including Google administration, digital subscriptions, and payment card security compliance. Manage and oversee grant writing efforts. Requisite Qualifications College degree in business administration or a related field. Relevant work experience in a congregation or nonprofit organization. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated ability to navigate and maintain compliance with nonprofit, employment, and financial regulations (including IRS, state, and local requirements), with proven experience overseeing legal, financial, and data-privacy compliance in a church or nonprofit setting. Grant writing experience, including successful preparation and submission of grant application. Schedule and Work Expectations This is a salaried, 40-hour-per-week, on-site position. Some work hours may fall outside normal business hours, including meetings with the Church Council and related ministry teams, and additional hours may occasionally be required to meet the needs of the role. The Business Manager reports to the Senior Pastor and will work closely with staff and volunteers to support efficient ministry operations. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
