This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can take ownership of the business during the day and operate with a high degree of independence. The General Manager will be responsible for growing enrollment and revenue, leading and developing the team, managing customer experience, monitoring operating expenses, and ensuring the facility, vehicles, staffing, and daily operations are consistently well managed. The owner will remain actively involved in strategy, financial oversight, and major business decisions, but the General Manager is expected to handle routine daytime operations without requiring constant owner involvement. We are especially interested in current or former middle school or high school educators who are ready for a leadership opportunity outside the traditional classroom. An active or previously held Iowa teaching license is strongly preferred. This role is focused on leading the business and developing the team rather than providing behind-the-wheel instruction. What We're Looking For The strongest candidate will be a self-starter who takes ownership, cares deeply about both customer and employee experience, and combines strong people leadership with the discipline, judgment, and follow-through required in a safety-focused business. We are particularly interested in candidates who: Have middle school or high school teaching experience Hold or previously held an Iowa teaching license Enjoy working with teenagers, parents, and families Have strong judgment and are comfortable making decisions independently Are effective recruiters and people developers Communicate professionally and confidently with customers and employees Are organized and capable of managing multiple priorities Understand basic business expenses and can make thoughtful spending decisions Take ownership and follow through Are comfortable operating with both autonomy and accountability Are comfortable with a schedule that may include some evenings and Saturdays based on student demand Candidates with an expired Iowa teaching license who may be eligible to reactivate it are strongly encouraged to apply. Key Responsibilities Own day-to-day business performance, including enrollment, revenue growth, customer experience, staffing, and operational execution Grow enrollment through customer follow-up, local business development, community engagement, and effective use of approved marketing resources Oversee the enrollment process and ensure prospective students and families receive timely, professional service Monitor key operating metrics and identify issues or opportunities early Manage approved marketing spend and day-to-day operating expenses with appropriate financial discipline Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, develop, and retain instructors and support staff Identify and recruit qualified Teachers of Record to support the driver education program Ensure staffing levels and schedules support current and projected student demand Train, coach, and support employees while setting clear expectations and maintaining accountability Handle escalated parent and student concerns, service issues, and customer recovery Oversee facility condition, supplies, vendors, and general office operations Coordinate vehicle maintenance, repairs, inspections, cleanliness, and readiness Help ensure required certifications, documentation, and operating procedures remain current Provide regular, concise updates to the owner regarding enrollment, staffing, expenses, customer issues, risks, and business performance Escalate material financial, legal, safety, compliance, or strategic issues appropriately while independently resolving routine operational matters How This Role Works This position requires a leader who is comfortable with both autonomy and accountability . The General Manager will have meaningful authority over routine daily operations and is expected to make sound decisions independently. The owner will remain closely involved in strategic direction, major financial decisions, and regular operating reviews. The goal is for the General Manager to keep the business running effectively during the day while maintaining strong communication and knowing when owner involvement is appropriate. Work Location and Schedule This is a full-time, on-site position based in Clive, Iowa. The General Manager is expected to be regularly present in the business and actively engaged with employees, customers, vehicles, vendors, and daily operations. The schedule can be flexible based on business needs, but because driver education activity often occurs after school and on weekends, the role will include some evenings and Saturdays . The expectation is not that the General Manager works every evening or every Saturday, but that they are willing to adjust their schedule to support the needs of the business. Compensation $50,000-$60,000 per year , depending on experience and qualifications. Performance-based compensation may be available as the business grows. Requirements Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required Must successfully pass a background check Must be able to successfully complete any required pre-employment screening, which may include a drug screen Ability to work full-time on-site in Clive, Iowa Strong communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, recruit, or manage people Comfortable using technology, scheduling systems, spreadsheets, email, and other basic business software About Jungle Driving School Jungle Driving School serves students and families throughout the Des Moines metro area.
