SUMMARY
To provide maximum service to members and patrons in order that the Two Rivers Consumer Cooperative Association is recognized by everyone as an efficiently managed, soundly financed, and democratically controlled organization that renders a vital service to its members and the community. Direct and coordinates the business and employees of the Cooperative in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors. General Manager is responsible for maintaining optimum efficiency and economy of operations across all Cooperative locations and service lines, and in all states in which the Cooperative conducts business.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following:
Maintain the lowest level of expenses possible, avoid waste and ensure that members and patrons are satisfied with service
Directs and coordinates the activities of all departments, service lines, and location managers across all Cooperative locations, including grain elevator operations, the feed and farm supply store, custom applications services and grain cleaning operations to ensure efficient and cost-effective performance.
Coaches, directs and manages locations managers on strategic planning and operational problem solving; guides location managers to anticipate equipment lifecycle needs, staffing requirements and other operational priorities in alignment with Cooperative wide goals.
Coordinates grain logistics with the assigned CEA location representative; communicates operational priorities, location-specific capacity and grain movement needs on an ongoing basis to ensure efficient handling across all Cooperative locations.
Maintains and strengthens the Cooperative's working relationship with partner organizations including CEA, CoMark and Astro Energy; serves as the Cooperative's designated representative on the boards and governance bodies to organizations in which the Cooperative holds an ownership interest or members.
Develops, maintains and supervises effective financial management and accounting systems, including the Cooperative's non-grain accounting platform and supporting operational spreadsheets; works in conjunction with the Cooperative's Controller on financial reporting, audit preparation and internal controls.
Actively monitors accounts receivable across all locations; maintains detailed ageing reports and provides monthly accounts receivable summaries to the Board of Directors; ensures timely collection activity to protect the financial health of the Cooperative.
Responsible for the development and presentation of annual budget including anticipated income and expenses and capital expenditures, prepares recommendations for patronage distributions and equity retirement based on working capital position, anticipated capital needs and input from the Cooperative's lender and auditor.
Prepares and distributes a comprehensive board book prior to each regularly scheduled board meeting, including an agenda, managers' report, financial statements, accounts receivable aging reports and other supporting materials as warranted; ensures all board members have the information needed to make informed decisions.
Works with the Board of Directors to develop organizational objectives, long-range plans, and operational policies; leads the annual strategic planning process in conjunction with location managers, board members and key industry partners.
Consults with attorneys concerning legal matters that may have an effect on the operation of the Cooperative
Oversees and maintains all required federal and state licenses, permits, registrations and insurance coverage necessary for Cooperative operations across all locations and in all states in which the Cooperative conducts business; ensures timely renewal of all required credentials and maintains records to demonstrate ongoing compliance.
Manages contracted relationships with compliance service providers responsible for regulatory oversight including Department of Transportation requirements and other applicable operational compliance obligations; ensures contracted services are performed adequately and the Cooperative meets all required standards.
Determines and presents recommendations for new facility construction, equipment additions or repairs; prepares departmental and combined statements of operations cash flow forecasts; and sources and use of funds to support board decision making on capital expenditures.
Oversee the Cooperatives operational technology systems, including non-grain accounting software and supporting management spreadsheets; manage relationships with technology service providers and cybersecurity vendors, ensures appropriate cyber insurance coverage is maintained and that the Cooperative's data and systems are adequately protected across all locations.
Manages the Cooperatives' primary lender relationship, including preparation and presentation of financial information required to support operating credit; monitors the Cooperative financial position relative to lender expectations and keeps the Board of Directors informed of material developments.
Research new operational methods and ideas that will provide costs savings or benefit the Cooperative and its membership
Plans and directs all investigations and negotiations pertaining to mergers, joint ventures, the acquisition of businesses or the sale of assets, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.
Demonstrate excellent public relations skills by establishing and maintaining programs that promote the Cooperative to members and industry related organizations and events
Promotes Cooperative-wide and location-level employee cohesiveness through effective communication, teamwork and shared services
Provide excellent customer service by managing difficult or emotional situations; responding promptly to customer needs, and meeting commitments
Effectively communicate by verbal and written means with members, patrons, employees, management, vendors, lenders and regulatory agencies.
Attends schools, meetings and seminars involving management and participates in regional Cooperative meetings pertaining to the affairs of the Cooperatives
Employee is required to perform all other duties as directed by the Cooperative Board of Directors.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Manager directly supervises department and location managers who supervise the total employee base of the Cooperative. General Manager is responsible for the overall direction, strategy and evaluation of each department or location. The General Manager carries out the supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures and applicable State and Federal laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess proficiency with standard office equipment and the computer. Willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars, classes or other job related education requirements or opportunities.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation, and labeling.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; taste or smell; stand; walk; sit and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move over 100 pounds. The employee may frequently need to climb ladders (may range from 20' to 180') and stairs. This may include structural ladders as well as climbing into applicator rig, large vehicles, and/or tractors. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employees must understand and implement all related safety polices, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is may be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and explosives. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. Employees must understand and implement all related safety polices, procedures and programs for prevention and protection while performing job duties in various work environments.
