Job Description
Company Overview:
A large, established life insurance and retirement services organization that provides annuity, investment, and retirement income solutions across the United States. The company offers a complex tax environment, significant executive visibility, and the opportunity to help shape tax strategy within a highly regulated financial services business. This role sits within a collaborative leadership team and will have broad exposure across accounting, finance, legal, investments, and corporate strategy.Compensation:
Base salary $250K - $295K +Bonus Location:
Topeka, KS or Des Moines, IA Job Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of the company's tax function, including tax compliance, tax reporting, tax planning, and tax strategy.
- Oversee federal, state, and local income tax reporting requirements.
- Manage quarterly and annual tax provisions in accordance with GAAP and statutory reporting requirements.
- Partner with finance, accounting, legal, and executive leadership on business initiatives and tax implications.
- Provide guidance on tax matters related to life insurance, annuity, and investment products.
- Review and evaluate the tax impact of acquisitions, restructurings, and other strategic transactions.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies.
- Lead, develop, and mentor members of the tax team.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on the organization.
- Drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and enhance the efficiency of the tax function.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership responsibility.
- Prior experience within the life insurance, annuity, or broader insurance industry strongly preferred.
- Deep knowledge of corporate taxation, ASC 740, and tax provision requirements.
- Experience managing complex tax compliance and reporting processes.
- Strong understanding of statutory accounting principles and insurance company tax considerations.
- Proven ability to partner with executive leadership and influence key business decisions.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly visible environment.
