Open Center Board Executive Committee Position Overview The Open Center for Children seeks an experienced, warm, and systems-minded Interim Director to provide operational stability, regulatory compliance, and community continuity during our permanent Director search. The Interim Director will serve as the primary on-site leader, ensuring the legal standing of the Center's license, managing core administrative workflows, supporting a dedicated teaching team, and upholding the school's progressive, play-based, Reggio Emilia-inspired educational philosophy. In addition to this interim position, we are considering candidates interested in serving in a full-time, salaried director role. This role involves being the on-site director of the center, and sharing administrative responsibilities with the assistant director. Job Responsibilities Operations Management:
Serve as the designated Director on-site to maintain compliance with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) standards. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Center, ensuring a caring and safe environment.
Financial Stewardship:
Partner with the parent advisory board and third party accounting firm to manage budget, routine bill pay, timesheets, and tuition payments.
Staff Leadership:
Supervise and support staff in implementing curricular and other program activities. Partner with Staff Coordinator to coordinate staff schedules, handle teacher call-outs, and ensure continuous classroom coverage. Job Requirements Must hold a valid Massachusetts Department of EEC Director I certification to satisfy state licensing criteria. Strong execution skills in systems management, administrative workflows, and collaboration with outsourced financial partners. Warm, empathetic, and communicative leadership style with a proven track record of supporting seasoned staff through organizational transitions. Valid CORI background check, current health exam, and First Aid/CPR certifications are required prior to the official start date. Job Benefits The Open Center offers a competitive salary comparable to the full-time Director position (which has a listed range of $78,000 to $88,000 per year). This is a temporary, contracted position that we anticipate will initially last for 2-4 months. It is not eligible for health benefits.
