School of Music:
The University of Maryland School of Music is a comprehensive arts institution housed in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art complex with six performance venues, classrooms, and the Michelle Smith Performing Arts Library. The School of Music offers B.A., B.M., M.A., M.M., Ph.D., and D.M.A degrees. Located within minutes of the Nation's Capital, the University is linked by mass transit to the homes of the National Symphony Orchestra and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra and the major military service bands. Celebrated performance venues include the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian Museums, the National Gallery, and the Corcoran and Kreeger Museums. music.umd.edu; theclarice.umd.edu; arts.umd.edu Reporting to the Assistant Director for Finance, this position manages the day-to-day business functions of the School of Music while providing professional, customer service-oriented support to the faculty, staff, and students. The primary role of the position is to coordinate and manage various payroll, financial, grant, and foundation transactions for the school. This position is responsible for coordinating core HR processes across the employee lifecycle, in accordance with State, University, and sponsor policies, procedures, and guidelines. Duties include but are not limited to: Coordinating core HR processes across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment and hiring, onboarding and offboarding, position and appointment management. Using Priority software (BA4) and Workday, Monitor and reconcile unit accounts, including State budget, awarded grants, revolving funds, and endowment funds. Manages all procurement needs and audits purchasing cards. Maintains accurate records of all department expenses. Coordinates all travel and lodging arrangements for guest lecturers, visiting artists, faculty travel, and faculty research/start-up funds. Works with unit faculty and staff in the development and submission of sponsored research proposals.Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.Preferences:
Experience with Workday or similar enterprise resource planning systems preferred Prior experience in higher education, particularly at the University of Maryland, is strongly preferred Experience with budget management and financial reporting Experience with procurement systems and purchasing procedures Knowledge of grant writing, administration, and compliance with sponsor requirements Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping Interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituencies Experience with Priority Software (BA4)Licenses or Certifications:
None Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Experience:
Three (3) years of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or travel coordination experience.Other:
Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
