Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. HISTORY Founded in 1893, National Council of Jewish Women is the oldest Jewish women's grassroots organization in the country. In Minnesota, sections in both Minneapolis and St. Paul were early charter sections, creating a legacy of Head Start programs, the Minneapolis Crisis nursery and ground-breaking legislation to promote menstrual equity. In 2016, the NCJW Minneapolis and St.
Paul sections merged to become NCJW Minnesota. As a national organization, NCJW Inc. headquarters in Washington, DC. Local sections across the country (and with a presence in Israel) engage in direct service, advocacy and education to build a network of social justice advocates. NCJW is at a pivotal moment in its history, aspiring to build a national movement of changemakers through a more consistent agenda of advocacy and partnership.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ROLE OVERVIEW
National Council of Jewish Women MN (NCJW MN) is seeking an Executive Director to lead this remarkable 132-year-old organization during a time of organizational evolution. The Leadership Council (Board of Directors), is seeking a candidate who can build strong relationships and provide visionary leadership to help strengthen NCJW MN to meet current and future opportunities, with a lens on change management. The Executive Director works in partnership with the Leadership Council to shape the strategic direction and program priorities of NCJW MN with a strong focus on strengthening participation and engagement while creating leadership growth and development opportunities for our advocates. The Executive Director is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic partnerships and alliances, leading our advocacy team, staying informed on policy priorities, and representing NCJW MN in coalitions and collaborative efforts. In partnership with the Leadership Council President, the Executive Director will serve as a spokesperson for NCJW MN and will represent the NCJW MN mission and programs to community members, agencies, and decision-makers. The Executive Director is also charged with promoting the organization's growth, visibility, and financial sustainability through program and fund development initiatives. The Executive Director will supervise a part-time Deputy Director, volunteers engaged as advocates through committee work, and strategic partnerships and programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engagement and Leadership Development - 60%
- Strengthen participation and engagement and provide leadership growth and development opportunities for our advocates.
- Create alignment around organizational changes by creating momentum and readiness for change; maintain a strong and engaged relationship with NCJW, Inc. to define the future of integration.
- Provide the necessary guidance to achieve NCJW MN's mission.
- Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with organizations, alliances, community members, and elected officials to ensure that NCJW MN has a "seat at the table"; work collaboratively with key community groups, organizations and individuals who have interests similar to NCJW.
- Lead NCJW MN's advocacy team, maintain current knowledge of status of policy priorities, and represent NCJW MN in coalitions.
- Provide leadership in the development of programs, organizational and financial plans.
- Work with volunteers and staff to carry out decisions, plans, and policies authorized by the Leadership Council.
- Help define, evaluate, and measure success. Support for the Leadership Council and Our Advocates - 15%
- In partnership with the Deputy Director, serve as a support and resource to the President, the Leadership Council, committees and advocates.
- Provide regular reports to the Leadership Council as needed.
- Implement policies and initiatives as determined by the Leadership Council.
- Keep the Leadership Council informed about relevant social and community trends.
- Cultivate individual connections with advocates to support leadership development.
- Attend appropriate meetings and functions. Financial Management & Operations - 10%
- Oversee strategic and financial operations of NCJW MN.
- Together with the Treasurer, regularly review NCJW MN's finances and investments.
- Develop the NCJW MN budget with input from the Finance Committee, Leadership Council, and staff.
- Develop and maintain sound financial practices; ensure organization operates within budget.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Review and make recommendations about legal, contractual, accounting and insurance matters in consultation with appropriate professionals. Fund Development - 15%
- Provide strategic leadership and clear goals for NCJW MN fund development and fundraising activities, in partnership with volunteer leadership.
- Develop strategies for donor relations and cultivation.
- Recommend and implement strategies to secure financial resources in support of NCJW MN's strategic plan and mission.
- Maintain a close, ongoing relationship with major donors and Leadership Council.
THE IDEAL EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CANDIDATE NCJW MN

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Management experience, including fiscal management, fund development and supervisory experience.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) and demonstrated ability to manage relationships across a variety of stakeholder groups.
- Knowledge of local legislative process and effective advocacy.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to organize resources, manage multiple projects and establish priorities.
- Ability to navigate through organizational change with vision for the future.
- Ability to think strategically and develop and implement operational plans.
- Ability to lead and foster leadership in others.
- Technologically savvy; proficient in Google Suite; experience working with a database.
- Energetic, creative and self-motivated.
- Understanding of Jewish culture and/or familiarity with the Twin Cities Jewish community.
Compensation for this position is based on .75 FTE salary of $63,000-67,000. Other benefits include 15 days of PTO, paid national and Jewish holidays, and a stipend toward health insurance. NCJW's spacious and bright office is located in Golden Valley. Ability to work remotely when appropriate. Flexible work schedule with occasional evening programs or meetings.
