Job Description
Position Summary… What you'll do… As a General Transportation Manager, you will lead transportation operations within a Walmart distribution or transportation facility, ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of freight. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, developing high-performing teams, managing financial performance, and delivering exceptional service to stores, customers, and business partners. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive continuous improvement while maintaining Walmart's commitment to safety, service, and operational excellence. What You'll Do Lead Transportation Operations + Direct daily transportation operations to ensure service, safety, and productivity goals are achieved. + Develop and execute strategic plans that improve transportation efficiency and optimize operational performance. + Monitor key performance indicators and adjust operational priorities to meet business objectives. + Balance inbound and outbound freight demands while maintaining service expectations. Drive Business Results + Manage facility budgets, expenses, and asset utilization to support financial performance goals. + Analyze business reports, operational data, and metrics to identify opportunities and implement improvements. + Evaluate existing programs, processes, and initiatives to improve efficiency, service, and cost effectiveness. + Lead multiple business initiatives and projects while ensuring successful execution and results. Emergency and Network Response Management + Partner with the Transportation Command Center, distribution centers, and transportation offices to maintain freight flow during emergencies or disruptions. + Identify alternative transportation resources and routing solutions to support business continuity. + Coordinate response efforts to ensure critical freight reaches impacted areas safely and efficiently. Develop and Lead Teams + Recruit, hire, train, mentor, and develop transportation associates and leaders. + Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous learning. + Set performance expectations, provide coaching and feedback, and recognize individual and team accomplishments. + Create development opportunities that support career growth and succession planning.
