This position focuses primarily on assisting with daily hotel operations and management while also supporting the hotel's sales efforts and developing new business. Assistant General Manager Responsibilities Assist the General Manager with the overall daily operation of the hotel. Supervise, train, coach, and support Front Desk employees. Help maintain employee schedules and appropriate staffing levels. Handle guest concerns, complaints, and service recovery professionally. Ensure hotel policies, procedures, and brand standards are consistently followed. Oversee Front Desk operations, reservations, billing, cash handling, and room inventory. Communicate and coordinate with Housekeeping and Maintenance to ensure smooth daily operations. Assist with employee performance, training, and accountability. Help maintain a professional, safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and employees. Step in and assist wherever needed to keep hotel operations running smoothly. Scheduling & Shift Coverage This is a hands-on management position , and candidates must have open and flexible availability . Must be available to work weekends as scheduled or needed. Must be willing and able to cover Front Desk shifts due to call-offs, staffing shortages, vacations, or other operational needs. Availability for mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays may be required. Management is expected to step in when necessary to ensure the hotel is properly staffed and guest service is maintained. This position is not strictly a Monday-Friday management or sales position . Sales & Business Development Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, corporate accounts, construction crews, traveling professionals, groups, and extended-stay clients. Actively seek new business through sales calls, emails, property tours, networking, and community outreach. Follow up on sales leads and group inquiries. Assist with negotiating rates and securing corporate and extended-stay accounts. Maintain existing accounts and encourage repeat business. Help achieve hotel occupancy, revenue, and sales goals. Track sales activity and communicate progress with hotel leadership. Professionally represent the hotel throughout the Independence and Kansas City area. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of hotel or hospitality experience required. At least 1 year of hotel supervisory, management, or leadership experience strongly preferred. Previous Front Desk experience in a full-service or extended-stay hotel environment required. Previous hotel sales, corporate sales, or business development experience strongly preferred. Experience supervising employees, providing training, handling performance concerns, and enforcing company policies. Strong understanding of hotel operations, including reservations, guest billing, cash handling, room inventory, and daily Front Desk procedures. Must have experience handling escalated guest concerns and resolving problems independently and professionally. Strong leadership, communication, organization, and decision-making skills. Must be comfortable working independently and making management-level decisions when the General Manager is unavailable. Must have strong computer skills and be comfortable learning multiple hotel systems. IHG, Candlewood Suites, Opera, HotelKey, or similar property-management-system experience is highly preferred. Extended-stay hotel experience is strongly preferred. Must have reliable transportation and open availability, including weekends. Strong attendance, punctuality, professionalism, and dependability are required. Must provide legitimate, verifiable professional references from previous employers or supervisors.
