Deputy General Manager Transportation Summary:

Roles and Responsibilities:
Directs, through subordinate management, the Hoboken, Newark Divisions and New York Penn Stations (NYPS) in the overall operation of NJ TRANSIT's daily commuter trains and ticket offices. D irects through subordinate management, System Operations in the operation of the Rail Operations Center in the safe and efficient dispatching of trains and contingency plans during service disruptions. Ensures that trains are operated safely and that a high level of on-time performance is maintained. Monitors the coordination of capital project work with operating passenger rail service to minimize delay to projects or passengers. Monitors communication to ensure flow of information to passengers, especially during service disruptions. This includes accurate and timely text and phone messaging to crew members. PA announcements, My Transit alerts and web site updates. Directs through subordinate management, the development, implementation, administration and monitoring of operating rules, air brake/train handling rules/instructions and transportation safety rules. Directs through subordinate management, the oversight of non-agreement Road Foreman and agreement Locomotive Engineer and non-agreement Trainmaster and agreement Conductor functions, as well as the development, management and auditing of policies and procedures related to safe operating practices of Locomotive Engineers/Conductors as defined by the FRA, APTA, andNJ TRANSIT
rules, policies and procedures. Directs, through subordinate management, Consist Management to ensure that equipment meets customer needs related to consist counts; maintains schedule locomotives and car daily inspections, as well as 92- and 180-day inspections and annual inspections as required.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Ten (10) years of experience managing staff and progressive experience in railroad operations, including all major facets of transportation. Thorough understanding of safety issues and how those issues impact service, staff and customers is required.
